The 1tpi isn't really an issue as it's more like half a tpi due to the length it's the difference in Taper between BSPT and NPT that causes the issues.
You needed a new head 2 cuts ago as it's more than likely been warped the whole time and just cut flat each time leaving the saddles misaligned.
I'm willing to bet that the exhaust side is annealed.
I drill the peened part of the pin with a +2mm drill to remove the head then
I find a nut/bolt whatever that's +1mm to the pin size tighten the vice with soft jaws on that then position the CPS so the non toothy part of the gear is resting on the jaws then use a correct size pin punch (-.5mm)...
