    It's a manual Mk2 so a dead starter isn't a showstopper a reasonably fit guy should be able to bump start it on his own, try that with a Mk3 :runaway:

    Only way to do it as the Pinion gear is preloaded by the big clock spring and it takes some effort to change even on the ground, I used a phillips head screwdriver to lock one of the arms while I unbolted the motor.

    Think I'd be making 100% sure of the root cause of the failures before throwing a new Turbo at it. Would be worth having someone that knows about them to pull one of the dead ones down and do a post mortem.

    Technically true but you should have no control over boost and it will go straight into fuel cut. Sounds like you have other issues as well.
