Syncros prolly worn for lots of use over the years.
My second will grind only if down shifting. Mt90 didn't help when i tried that. But changing the oil couple times actually made the biggest difference. Now I can down shift at certain speeds and how I do it.
The pin outs are on that link just gotta make sure your looking at pre 89 and the wire colors are right. There are some differences between auto and manual but you can just trace the wires on the harness.

There used to e a really good one for pre89 body plugs but I lost the link and don't know how to find it again.
You'd prolly lose a lot of coolant and oil if the coolant part of the turbo cracked.
I'd pressure test the cooling system and see where it leaks or if it even holds pressure.
Can also do a compression test and block test to rule out bhg.
1 the aem ddriftmotion has is plug and play (PnP) meaning no wiring involved. And you could always plug the standalone in when you get to the tuner.
2 it comes with a base map to get to a tuner.
