Syncros prolly worn for lots of use over the years. My second will grind only if down shifting. Mt90 didn't help when i tried that. But changing the oil couple times actually made the biggest difference. Now I can down shift at certain speeds and how I do it.

The pin outs are on that link just gotta make sure your looking at pre 89 and the wire colors are right. There are some differences between auto and manual but you can just trace the wires on the harness.

Prolly choke the motor. If your manifold is t4 a t3 turbo housing will not work.

You'd prolly lose a lot of coolant and oil if the coolant part of the turbo cracked. I'd pressure test the cooling system and see where it leaks or if it even holds pressure. Can also do a compression test and block test to rule out bhg.
