Before doing any cutting, I suggest putting the incandescent charge indicator bulb back in. I suspect the problem is that the LED light is more sensitive than the original bulb, and is responding to a very small current that normall flows but is too small for the incandescent bulb to respond to.

Based only on my own experience, the block deck had significant damage that was only repaired by resurfacing. The fire rings left marks in the block that were a couple of mil deep. Obviously I haven't seen yours, but my guess is your block deck needs to be resurfaced to get a lasting repair.

Don't try this with a hot engine! Yes, it will make a mess, but you just want to loosen it a little and see if you can get any air to come out. Don't pull the thing off!

You need to get the valve clearances right, or suffer from burned valve if too tight and noisy valvetrain if too loose. Also, I recommend plastigauging the cam bearings. They are often loose.

Assembly lube on cam lobes, oil on cam bearings. Don't put assembly lube on cam bearings.

You could try loosening the hose that goes to the heater control valve and see if you can get any air out there. That is pretty much the highest point in the cooling system.

I think you will be wasting your money if you buy replacement stock cams. The only thing that wears is the bearing caps. Plastigauge the bearings and if they are over .0037" then lap the bearing caps to get back in spec. All the wear is in the caps because the valve springs push the cam upwards.
