you have only removed 0.01 of material, or 0.254mm. so stock hg + 0.254mm
ive rarely broken a toyota unjoint, even on a lifted toy 4x4. broke way more axles vs ujoints.
when installing it are all the needle bearings standing up?
yep thats the piece. the low is the highest resistance wire and so breaks first. a rejoin is just a band aid fix, it will break again. a new one will last much longer.
