^ This. The two halves should never be locked together. There isn't any mechanical device inside that's designed to let that happen even when the thing is working.

It's going to be near impossible for us to help with something like that from afar. On the other hand each of those issues are easy to individually resolve locally using the TEWD even if the harness isn't stock. Either wire the car to match or troubleshoot against what's shown in the schematics...
