The same or larger awg (sized for total load including starting) should be used for grounding and wire is better than the chassis when relocating to the rear. Lacking that a bonding strap of sufficient ampacity from the block to the chassis is imperative.

It certainly can. Although how this particular sender/gage operates is unique compared to others it's still not difficult to test. As I said in post #4 start by using the TSRM procedures.
Since the sensors and circuit are electrically identical the answer is yes. I would buy the proper sensor (it's cheap) but that's me. It'll also be more reliable. That's why the EFI system comes direct wired without splices or intermediate connectors.
Fix the 52 first. Fwiw once set it will stay set until the key is cycled. It's the only code to do that. Following the reset it takes several parameters to set again. It's not the only code to do that. Point is, fix any codes before trying to get aftermarket stuff to work...
