running lean but fluctuates after shifts

Yes but that's simply a result of the ECU noting the engine was started with STA missing. STA is what directly powers the cold start injector: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TEWD/MK3/manual.aspx?S=Main&P=38 It also tells the ECU to do several things when cranking, things that assist...

running lean but fluctuates after shifts

Fwiw the loss of STA could have everything to do with his hard cold starts.

failed smog twice.. need some suggestions

No. ECU is highly unlikely. No. Doesn't work that way. Could be stuck open though as could one of the other injectors. Checking for rest pressure decay is one way to test for that.

Looking for advice after failing CA smog check

Test the modulator, check the modulator's filter, and check for exhaust pressure to the modulator/exhaust leaks. Seafoam was a bad idea...

    Quick question about coolant sensor

You could but the stock gage sender as well as the EFI sender is on the engine side of the thermostat for a reason.

Killing The Myth: ATF vs PS Fluid

Interesting thread that contains some good observations. Congrats to the OP for making the effort. That said my comment applies only to older vehicles.

    Code 34

Not to check them but keep in mind some codes require several parameters be reached before they're set and coolant temp is one of them.

Fwiw the CSI doesn't need the ECU to function.

    Gauge cluster issues

Have fun. I'm actually kind of impressed. You have good tools and the beginnings of a decent handle on this stuff. It was really not necessary for me to get involved.

    Gauge cluster issues

Great. Then move power from A 10 to C 8. You don't care if it matches the schematic, all you care about is it works. Chalk it up to the price paid for swapping clusters. If you still can't get it to work take it outside and do a mag dump on it with that new Glock...

    Carbon build up/ black exhaust

He means the thing right behind the air filter. I'm guessing he wants to see if it's been tampered with. My advice is to take the car to a mechanic because, like, damn...

    Gauge cluster issues

Well, you already know C-8 is correct so you're doing something wrong. Nothing I have shows A-10 being used. Verify on the cluster which is the switched 12 volt. Either eyeball it or ring it out using the meter. Since it feeds most of the gages it'll be obvious. Iirc it's even marked on the...

    Gauge cluster issues

Yeah, that area is a pain to get at. Just be sure you're always measuring the correct thing and you'll find it. Using the TEWD is simply a matter of learning the symbology combined with practice. Good luck...

It's all right there in the book. 1F is the connector on JB1 in the left kick panel: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TEWD/MK3/manual.aspx?S=Main&P=16 E3: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TEWD/MK3/manual.aspx?S=Main&P=28 It's blue...

Then look at connectors 1F, E3, and JB3 (connector 3B). It goes through there: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TEWD/MK3/manual.aspx?S=Main&P=20 http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TEWD/MK3/manual.aspx?S=Main&P=15 If you don't want to measure voltage just pull the fuse and ohm...
