To rebuild or not to rebuild?

Well, like I said before, looks like I'll be doing a bunch of the work on it myself. This way atleast I will know EVERYTHING will be done properly. I'm anal about making sure things are perfect when doing work on my own stuff. I may not care if the inside's completely clean, but if there's a...

To rebuild or not to rebuild?

I didn't personally do the head gasket last. Last time it was done, the engine was entirely rebuild. I have receipts for resurfacing work, polishing done on the crank, and a bunch of other stuff, but I didn't see an inspection on the receipts. Why it would not have been done, I don't...

To rebuild or not to rebuild?

The shop is owned by one of my good friend's dad. They have 4 Supras in the family. I trust him completely with the car. About the bearings, I would still want to change the oil though, wouldn't I? From what I've been reading, even rediculously tiny amounts of coolant in the oil can be...

To rebuild or not to rebuild?

Already got the beater for $600 :S. None the less, I would like some time to keep the car off the road and work through some other issues...like fuel system :P. Studs were torqued to 85, so it should be fine. Dipstick oil looks fine, but under the oil cap you get the filmy milky goo. Take...

To rebuild or not to rebuild?

Shop checked the torque with a torque wrench, said it was good. Leak test turned up a slow leak. 22,000 miles have been put on the engine since the rebuild. No compression test was done, but the car has not seemed to lose any power or anything, and trust me, I would know. I'm anal about...

To rebuild or not to rebuild?

Yeah, torque seems to be fine on the studs. Car is parked until I can get money :( What should I do for storage? I know I want to probably do an oil change where it sits so that my bearings don't rust themselves away while it's parked. Any other suggestions?

To rebuild or not to rebuild?

So it's confirmed....BHG More feedback would be very much appreciated. I want to make a decision within the next week to limit any more driving on the car.

    Stuttering supra

    15 what? 15 psi or 15 mmHg? If it's 15 mmHg...then there's a vaccuum problem. If it's 15 psi, it's all good :P.

To rebuild or not to rebuild?

Ok, this might end up being a lengthy post, so bear with me here. I bought my Supra late last August. I have receipts for everything done to the car, some of which include parts and labour for an engine rebuild @ 275,000km (171875miles). During the rebuild, the head gasket was replaced with...

Wanted: Sound clips of a 7M-GTE running WELL

Yeah....with a 3 1/2" exhaust and DDP, you can tell the engine's on :P It's definitly clickity coming from more the rear of the valve train than the front (listened in with a scope), but it just kind of baffles me it would still sound like that after shim adjustments.

Wanted: Sound clips of a 7M-GTE running WELL

I've been scouring youtube and forums to try and find some to compare it to my engine. I haven't found a really good quality clip yet though. Would be nice to hear the idle and rev's up to ~3000rpm if someone's gonna actually go out and make one. I've got some ticks even after doing shims in...

    rod knock?

Time to pull 'er out it sounds like. Another vote for rod knock from me, but hey, you never know until you completely check it out. I've heard of so many weird loose things that have made noises like that, so do a thorough go over before giving in. Just remember, if it truly is rod know...

    car dies while coasting

Mine does the same thing, and I KNOW it's because I go real rich when shifting. One of those sort of problems that don't really need to be fixed, so I live with it. I'm planning on doing the fuel system and getting a MAFT, so I'll tune it out then and get rid of the problem hopefully.

    Anyone running these clutches?

I was using the Centerforce DF clutch, running ~330rwhp It grabbed nice and hard real fast, but that means it's a lot harder on the clutch disc for typical city driving where you're slipping it to get off the line 'nicely' :P. Also, when the meat on the disc was on it's last legs, the pressure...

    noisy valve train

Just thought I'd let you all know that the noise was the valves. 6 of them were out. Shims are ordered and it should be all good to go by midweek :)

    Lurching, bogging than peeling out?!

I can tell you that my own car and my friend's two supras both have had the stall issue. I just raised my idle a bit and it doesn't do it anymore. My idle was at approx. 650, no it's at 800. No biggy.

    noisy valve train

Yeah, mine's not as loud as that either. Again, any idea if it's something to be super worried about or any idea when to become super worried about it?

    noisy valve train

Ok, after doing some searching on the forum, I found this little guy here... http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46461&highlight=tick+valve The video has the EXACT same noise as my car, so I'm assuming it's valve tick. Take a listen MadHatter and compare the noise. I guess the...

    noisy valve train

Actually, I came online here looking for an answer to exactly the same sound :P I was pretty sure it was the shims, but wanted to be 100%. Any idea if it's something to be super worried about or any idea when to become super worried about it? I just did my clutch, flywheel, tranny, and...
