    That's an awesome offer Ian! What's CNC bench time cost these days? ;) You reckon the groove is more of a problem than that rod pin on the crank, or the scuffing on the rod and cap?

    A few more of the groove worn into the rear of the crankshaft from the rear main seal, some of the "good" bearings (no shots of the only one that wasn't heat stressed, deformed or had deposits), pistons, and crank.

    I like! Not sure what magnesium looks like in it's natural form, but that's the color I'd imagine it to be. You can compare it to the alloy on the coil mount to see what it was - much better!

    Thanks for clearing that up Nick and 3p. I came to a similar conclusion in my own investigating! They're both A340Es so that's what threw me.

    I've not come accross any documentation to support that (yet at least). If there's any difference, I'd suspect it to be in the torque convertor and/or the way the engine ECU talks to the transmission ECT.
