    is it my starter??

Two things are common here, either the safety switch (neutral safety switch on an auto or clutch engagement swith on a manual) or the starter. With autos, the safety switch is generally on the outside and can get dirty. Grabbing the shifter and rocking it back and forth between D and P while...

    Drive Shaft twist wtf????

"That is why aluminum drive shafts are used - better Harmonics and weight and they're easier on tranny as well."

Our rebuild/restoration of the '90 with only 93k miles!

Would you believe this is the first pic of my dad's property I've ever seen (and I'm not talking about the car)? Thanks for the details Heidi! Oh, and "hi" by the way from the two of us down on the other side of the world!!! Wow, you hand lapped all 24 valves? I did that on the 5M and...

Dude, that's huge progress! Nice work! I'm way behind now...

    Running lean?

I had a very similar problem on my wife's 626 and it turned out to be a fault in the O2 sensor wiring. Have a look at the wiring from the sensor to as close to the ECU as possible. In fact, if you can backprobe the sensor (involves piercing the O2 sensor insulation) and do a resistance check...

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Aussies are some of the most friendly people in the world - I should know, I married one! Ian, Allan, Miggles, not to worry, you're quite safe! Today: Finished tearing down the busted 5M from the old soarer. I've learned a lot from this excercise. This motor's a 5M-GEU and has EGR on it...

    Intake Manifold sensor

But, it is an injector and it does have fuel pressure behind it all the time. So if the fuel delivery hose/pipe is not connected (which is what I think ShagsSupra is saying), it will spray fuel!

    Kwnate's "FTW" build

Very nice! For those of you without MP4 support and who don't want to mess around with installing a whole bunch of codecs to get whatever player you have to handle the various formats out there, may I suggest a free program known as VLC (www.videolan.org/vlc). It plays everything I've ever...

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Thanks Allan! I'll continue tearing this one down and see how bad the damage is after it's stripped and let you know.

    Intake Manifold sensor

If there's a bolt there and not the item that MA70Supra88 posted, the car will be hard to start when cold. Other than that, it should still run. I'd try to get that replaced as it's probably monitored by the ECU. If it's not there, the ECU will know it and could change some of the parameters...

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

:nono: I know... It makes sense, I mean there is a definite tolerance between the piston and bores that must be maintained...

Bugger! I liked it better the way it was before!

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

I like it - thanks for setting me straight! The pistons on this motor at least appear to be OK so I'd hate to have to shell out for new ones.

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Probably a stupid question and feel free to tell me to search but does a 1st oversize require an oversized piston or is that just if you're going way OS? I know the rings will need to be OS.

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Assuming it is the 1st and from what I can see so far, that's probably a safe assumption. The block surface looks very rough but I don't know if that's because I don't know what to compare it to. Might have been decked once before.

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

No, not planning to anymore. My main concern now is whether it's going to be something that can be machined out or if the bore's no good at all. I'll have to get it torn down enough to take it to a machinist to see what the damage is. Until then, I can still have fun doing the teardown...

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

I re-rotated the block - man that's a pain, you've got to hold the front of the motor and pull up, while trying to rotate the handle on the back, very dirty and not very easy! So from what I can see, there's a very faint mark around the top of the cylinder (below the carbon ridge) that...
