OK, ignore that last comment. I can feel the marks with my fingernail. I've got the motor tilted crank side up at the moment and it's a bitch to try and turn it without getting filthy so I can't be specific at the moment. I'm about to head out for the evening so filthy isn't an option...
Nope, as near as I can tell, they're just rust coloured "discolouration" for lack of a better term.
Hey, how'd you change the font colour on your name?
Anyone think no1 looks as bad as I do? It's still smooth but I don't like the way it looks at all and am hoping it'll be taken care of by a good honing.
Take this with a grain of salt, but from what I understand, the extra knock sensor is basically for extra sensitivity. One will pick up noise from a central spot (which is where it is on the GE) but two is going to pick up a bit more, especially if it's at the front and back (as in on the GTE...
Don't worry about the spray on stuff if it's OEM type gasket. Those are coated in a graphite compound (at least I think that's what it is) and tend to seal themselves just fine. If you can scratch the gasket with your fingernail, it doesn't need a sealer.

It's for a Camero but should be very similar. The main thing to note is that the studs have allen key holes on the tops, so those go head side.
That's awesome! So all this time when you thought you were doing 80, it was actually more like 90!
Glad it's all sorted and this will be a big help to anyone who goes down a similar path.
You be sure to look me up if you come in August! Oh, and it's I as in Ian, not 1! Ian's not terribly fond of the 1J - well not in a barge like the supra, that is!
I'll be watching closely! As previously mentioned, you'll get there before I do and our builds are not all that different - except for the 10+ years between the cars of course. Ok, they're massively different but you get the idea!
I hear that frequently! And now that I live here, I can totally second it! It's awesome here. The climate and geography is very much like norcal, at least here in Victoria where I live. I grew up in your area but my family moved to OK when I was about 10 - part of me will never forgive them...
Tonight:
Thought I'd check out the no1 and 6 cylinders as I'd not looked at them previously. Uh oh... 1 looks not so good and 6 appears to be fine.
I got the head gasket off after some gentle persuading with a flat screwdriver (don't worry, didn't scratch the block). No pics of that...
Doward, did you ask what size thread or what size allen key you'd need? If it's the latter, your questions are answered. If it's the former, you're still looking!
That's what I keep telling myself but honestly, I've just not been feeling up to doing much in the garage lately and with it being cold (even in the garage) it's probably just as well that I don't make myself even sicker!
