    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

The one that attaches to the throttle body. I was thinking I'd fashion something out of the 5m one but they're pretty dissimilar.

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Today Just picked up the head and it looks great! All cleaned up and resurfaced. There's a bit of corrossion around the water jackets but otherwise, everything looks OK. Pics sometime in the next day or so.

What's the difference between pro race motors and a race built supra motor?

Yep, it's definitely not cheap! I'm pretty sure this guy was talking engine alone though. I would imagine "engine" could include the mechanics, shop time, R&D, parts, etc... for just that aspect. Either way, it's a big difference to our humble vehicles. It does beg the question though, how...

What's the difference between pro race motors and a race built supra motor?

It's funny how they change, isn't it! This guy was talking about dyno variances between shops in this area and how one showed almost a 100hp difference. The context was some guy bragging about his 5 litre V8 putting out heaps of power and then getting on the dyno to see it only made 300HP!

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Very true! I'm getting off pretty lucky so far - the cleaning and resurfacing are costing me very little. The crank work will be fairly expensive and the bearings/rings/gaskets will add up I'm sure. And that doesn't account for the other bits and pieces I'll need before trying to put the...

What's the difference between pro race motors and a race built supra motor?

Exactly as I thought guys! Thanks for the feedback. Ian, the guy I was speaking to is the machinist that's doing some basic work on my head/block at the moment. Shop's called MS Engine Rebuilders. I was telling him a bit about high horsepower supras and he mentioned "happy dynos" and then...

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Not much excitement this week, I'm afraid. I tore everything down off the block and head and finally dropped it by the machinist to have it cleaned, decked, shaved, honed. Turns out I work in the same industrial court as a race fabricator and engine/machine shop! The machinist is a bit of an...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

I need to post some minor updates but nothing much has been going on. Been trying to scrounge up some money to pay for machining and parts! I'll leave this thread to your progress and go post some updates on mine!

What's the difference between pro race motors and a race built supra motor?

All right, need some opinions here... Been talking to the machinist that's working on my block and head and he's a bit of an old timer. He's been saying proper pro race cars get a million spent on 'em each year (he's talking about touring race cars) and that there's a reason for that. I...

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

That's awesome Boso! I'm also glad to see Toyota has kept things simple between so many car generations. Makes me think my swap will be a bit easier than what I'm expecting.

BosoMKII's project! 56k cut your head off

I don't think it's attached to anything guys. The vacuum canister goes into a bracket that's connected around where the motor mounts are (I'm a bit fuzzy on this as it's been a mont since I tore mine down). 3p's got a point, it doesn't seem to serve any purpose on the 7m. Or the 5m, if I...

    Putting the engine back in

If the transmission is hitting the ground when you're trying to re-install it, the eibachs could be your problem. However, I'd have thought you would have had similar issues getting it out in the first place!

    Faster shifts on the Auto...

There is a shift mod out there for auto trannies (just search for "A340 mod") but I don't know if it makes it shift faster or just later.

Low Low Low (well not that low)

Means more force is required to compress them, the closer you get to full compression. Linear springs are the other option, where force to compress them remains the same throughout travel.

    FFI the Nashy way

I'm guessing it's a part that not many people look at, as it's usually hidden from view. I only had it fresh on my brain because I've got one sitting in my garage at the moment!

    e-bay gasket kits?

It certainly looks like it. It definitely has the gaskets I mentioned in my previous post. What it does include that doesn't seem to be necessary is the cork oil pan gasket. I don't know that these are necessarily a bad thing if used right but in my experience, cork cracks when you screw...

    e-bay gasket kits?

I've looked at that same kit because I need everything except the head gasket. From what I can see, it doesn't include the rear main seal cover gasket or the front timing cover gaskets either. You can get those directly from Toyota if need be though.

    FFI the Nashy way

Nash, do I get points for guessing it even before I read page 2? I noticed all the runners were bending the same direction, which meant they were now equal length. When I read your description, I realised why you went that route. Nice one!

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

This Week Finally got around to getting at least one estimate on machine work. Thanks for the tip Ian! All told, it'll cost around $650 for everything except decking the block, cleaning the head and an align hone on the block. So there's still the possibility of more $$$ to part with...

    12 Volt Mod

You might want to mention which relay and resistor it is that you're trying to eliminate... [Edit] Just saw your fuel pump thread - you're talking about the relay and resistor for that one, right? ;)
