You can see it on the left in this pic (silver looking thing sticking out of the block):
I have no idea why that won't show the pic instead of the link...
As for what the TSRM says, honestly I didn't know that! I would imagine using a small amount of silicone wouldn't hurt but don't quite...
Fig, you mentioned the block drain needing sealant - I'm not aware of why this would be the case. It's very similar to the radiator drain cock (except metal) and I can't imagine it needing anything except torque to get it closed again.
Just as reassurance, I used the one on the back of my...
Awesome work Figit!
You know, 2 and 4 seem to be a pretty common thing for people to get reversed. I'm going to have to remember that on my build!
I would probably not worry too much about the 22lbs for the ex bolts. For one thing, if Ian says it'll work, it'll work! And secondly, if...
You can bet I'm going as "total tight-ass" as I possibly can. I couldn't use the pistons though, cause I'd end up with like 8:1 compression or something rediculous like that!
Today Part 2
Went down to the other machine shop to see when my block would be finished and was surprised to find out it's ready now! I asked him to pop another hole in the block for the front sump dipstick location and he did that at no charge. All set to start thinking about rebuilding...
No seal that I'm aware of. These hoses don't last forever though. If you can get it off, you'll likely find it's cracked. Should be an easy part to get through Toyota. If not, I've had success just using standard hoses from any old autparts store. There's not a lot of heat to deal with on...
That idea sounds fantastic - possibly a bit on the over-cautious side but that's NEVER a bad thing!
I couldn't tell from your pic on the BnS engine, but were those holes already there and you just widened them? If so, you'll know by feel if you've hit the bottom of the hole. Also, the old...
Fig, I think you're right about the hole. However, you can always set everything to TDC, install the distributor and reinstall till you get the rotor pointing at no1 on the dissy cap (When it's fully installed). Bear in mind, this'll be at 0 degrees instead of where you'll set it when it's...
Yeah, he's pretty awesome! The stuff he's put together has helped the supra community in ways I'm sure he'll never fully appreciate.
If you get his details, post 'em up cause I'd like to know as well!
Just as a guess, sounds like a vacuum leak. The "hunting" you're describing could be the IAC trying to compensate. Any leaks I've ever noticed tend to not be a problem when the throttle is open (ie, not idle).
Could be worth using the old "hose stuck in your ear" trick to see if you can...
Today
Just dropped the crank off to be ground and polished. I found a place just 2 minutes up the road that apparently specialises in engine work for the Holden Racing Team. The price was decent and they were quite familiar with the 7M so should be good.
Ian, I'd have followed your advice...
