Don't have any pics right now, my exhaust is on my buddy's car right now and I've got his stock exhaust to get through AirCare (smog, whatever you want to call it) cause mine has no CATs at all. When I do the swap back I can snap a couple pics for you if you want though.
I've got a BIC 3" divorced downpipe to 3" pipe all the way back to an Apexi muffler 3" in 4" out and I love the way it sounds. It is loud when you hit boost, but other than that if you are driving like a sane person it's not bad at all. Hell of a lot faster than stock exhaust too...
It's a low km head, hardness tested ok. I wouldn't expect the exhaust manifold bolts to be loosening. All torqued to spec with a torque wrench. I'll run it a bit longer today. Like I said, I didn't get a chance to run the car much due to the time, I doubt it was one for even more than 5 minutes.
Okay, I JUST finished my head swap and fired the car up today. Fires up nicely, runs without a hitch, no check engine light :D.
After running for a little bit I noticed that there was some white(ish) smoke comming up from by the exhaust manifold between runners. I know that there is a very...
Unforuntately I didn't get a chance to take pics, time because a concern from where I was working...but....
CAR IS STARTED!
Engine fired up nicely after finding just a couple coolant lines I forgot to hook up (my bad). My only concern now is I've got a bit of white smoke coming up between the...
Can't turn boost down with that. The "problem" is that the exhaust is giving enough retriction to keep the turbo from spooling higher, thus the higher than stock boost. To fix it properly you either start taking off nice exhaust pieces and replacing them with stock or you do the upgrades...
Yeah, I am. Sorry I didn't put down the list of stuff I'm using. I'll take the opportunity to do so now :P
ARP head studs to 90ft lbs
Cometic MLS head gasket
Fel Pro head seal kit (inc valve seals)
Comp Cams 975-12 valve springs on intake and exhaust side
Home ported and polished head...
Also a quick note...
If you do have the wrong type in there, be sure to flush the system thoroughly. Just having a residue of the propylene glycol in there will still cause issues. Mixing the two is also a huge huge no no.
Along with the springs, be prepared to fight with the spring seats/retainers. If I remember correctly, it's the bottom that doesn't like to fit in nicely. The machine shop opted for just machining the bottoms rather than fighting with each one. If you are doing it on your own though, be aware...
Depends on what green coolant. There are different types of green coolants, just like there are different types of red coolants. The one you should be using in your car is a "Ethylene Glycol". The type you want to seriously avoid is a "Propylene Glycol" based coolant, as when it's exposed to...
Preventative measures are always better than knowing you are risking something that can lead to more problems. ARP hardware for the head and a metal headgasket is probably the absolute least you would want to do with those upgrades.
Also have you thought about fuel delivery? You might...
Just curious if anyone's compiled a list of sensors, locations, plugs, etc. Done some searching and couldn't find anything, so I thought ask quickly. I've got a few that I'm not sure of where they go right now on my top end project. I'll post pictures if I absolutely can't find them. Think...
They're assembly plugs and they're threaded in. You can get them from Toyota, I had to get a few for my head. Easiest way to thread them in if you don't have a tool that big is to use the head of a bolt (can't remember the size of the top of my head), double nut the threads on that bolt, and...
