I would tend to lean towards a brake pulsation myself as well. There are lots of times that you won't notice a brake pulsation until you get up to highway/freeway speeds. Does the shuddering feel like it's coming from the front (through the steering wheel) or from the back (through your seat)...

Yeah, make sure you check valve timing AND cps timing. It's very easy to put your cps in one tooth off.

This doesn't sound very good for the life of the turbo, that's for sure. Turbo seals are probably on their way out.

Just for other's reference. After running the car for an hour yesterday and driving it to work this morning, there's no more smoke or anything. Everything seems happy :)
