One of those "other" gaskets is the EGR cooling plate on the back of the head. Apparently most are paper where as it can use something a little more substantial. Just remembered that off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more, and I'm sure you'll get more responses :)

Off ARP's tech section: Personally I just went and bought the ARP stuff. They made it for a reason, right? ;) I got one for like 20 bucks and it will be good for many a rebuild after if necessary.
