High rpm components, let's cover everything.

While not a "component" in the physical sense, a complete balancing job of the entire rotating assembly is a must for higher rpm's.

    3 Maft Pro questions

This is a bit of a longer shot... but are you using an AC power adapter plugged into the power outlet on the car for your laptop? Have a look at my post #40 and the threads after it on page 2 here: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38513&page=2

    Boost doesn't change using MBC

Make sure the little pinhole on your MBC is not plugged.

    BC valve springs

Does anyone have any long term reports of valvetrain wear or lack thereof using the Comp Cams 975's with stock or aftermarket cams?

    3 Maft Pro questions

So the ecu is trying to fix it at least..... fuel pressure?

    3 Maft Pro questions

You may already know this, but keep in mind that the VF output signal is irrelevant until the car warms up. Do you have a wideband to see if the car is actually running lean... hence why the ECU would be trying to add as much fuel as possible (4.4volts) ?

    GRAY WIRE on maftpro

If you're talking about pin 7 on the maftpro, it's the aux analog output 2. It's a straight voltage that you can set. If you're running in speed density mode, you can use it to bypass the High Altitude Compensation (HAC) sensor in the car. Have a read here...

New Engine Set-Up Finally In *PICS*

On the subject of piston slap, here's what Tom Monroe has to say in the Engine Builders Handbook (pg 9) and I quote: "Piston slap makes a hollow or dull noise. If you were to tap a piston's thrust surface --- the right side of the piston below rings --- with a plastic or wood mallet, it would...

Rod shortening as an alternative to a thicker headgasket

Right. From what I understand, our fluid-film journal bearings are made slightly thicker in the middle than at the ends. This helps provide immediate lubrication on cold startup by letting a tiny bit of oil rest between the bearing and journal on shutdown. Plus you need that oil wedge you...

Rod shortening as an alternative to a thicker headgasket

No, actually you quite enjoy it! LOL Anyway, I've been thinking about this over the past few days, and in the meantime I've read several threads about people simply pulling the pistons/rods out of the motor, say to do a ring or bearing replacement. They just put them back in when they were...

    no power steering :(

+1 for Dexron III ATF fluid in the Power Steering system. If/When you get around to replacing that belt, there are two different belts depending on if you have Progressive power steering or not. Since you have an 87, you most likely don't have PPS. So the part# you want is (probably!)...

Likewise! lol I'm still wondering about the crank scraper. Are you guys still using it?

Don't you ever do this (Damn fool I am)

One of these is nice if your stock valley cover gasket has gone to pot... http://www.suprasport.com/LIPP-Spark-Plug-Galley-Cover_p_0-212.html

    Power steering pump identification

I'd be interested to know if there's a link between Turbo/NA and PPS/noPPS. Also which year (if any) it became standard. I understand it was first introduced in 89. Jeff ?

    Power steering pump identification

There's a progressive power steering system, and a regular power steering system. The pumps are (apparently) different. Some of the lines are definately different. Give him your VIN, and that should help clear up the problem. See here (1990 model) for a diagram of some of the components...

Rod shortening as an alternative to a thicker headgasket

I dropped by the machine shop today and had a long discussion with the machinist. He's quite knowledgable, and I learnt a lot! We checked out two of the rods using a dial gauge set up on a machine which showed in ten thousanths, and the big ends were out-of-round by about one thou each. So you...

    Don't grind the valve stem

0.2mm-0.3mm is correct on the exhaust side on a cold engine. See here: http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?S=EM&P=8 It's 0.15mm-0.25mm on the intake.

Correct way to install valve stem seals

(Bringing the thread back from 4 months ago) That small gap is normal as far as I know. It's to allow you to get them off. There is no mention in the TSRM of lubricating because they're not a sliding or moving part. Once they're installed, a bit of lube for the valve stems wouldn't hurt I think.

    Don't grind the valve stem

I'll quote some TSRM numbers that may help: - Standard valve overall length: 98.15mm (3.8642") - Minimum valve overall length: 97.75mm (3.8484") Shims go from 2.5mm to 3.3mm in thickness. There is no mention of oversize. Aftermarket?
