It will also idle high if you have a vacuum leak. In addition to what others have said, check all of your vacuum lines to make sure none of them are cracked. It doesn't take much of an air leak to raise your idle. This was my issue...

Like mkIIIman said, is it just spitting out coolant or was it indicating it was hot? If it is spitting coolant, make sure you didn't swap the hoses on the overflow bottle.
