Yes, platinum plugs have been around for damn near forever (the engine in the Wright Flyer used platinum electrodes). Sounds more like you have a BOV that's vented to the atmosphere...
System routed to the throttle body and the accordian is best (there is very low flow through the accordian anyway). Routing it to the exhaust won't work on a street car, plus it will destroy a cat.
