Big HP boys what clutch are you using? (2JZ/R154)

I thought that the point of a multi-disk clutch was to eliminate these things that you get with a puck clutch.

    Mk3 oil pressure sender/warning light

Neither my '89 NA nor the '90 turbo has such a light factory. I believe that JZA70s do because the 1JZ-GTE has the switch for it. I have never heard of an oil level switch in a 7M, but to be fair, my paper TSRM is the same as the on-line TSRM, which is for 1990.

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Looks like aftermarket wiring to me. Lots of heavy gauge wires, so maybe remote start/security? The steering wheel trim should be the same, AFAIK. It is a pain in the rear to install, there's not much clearance in places, and there are spots for the screw trim to go which are a bit finicky...

    egr question

I'd suggest that you not delete EGR, since it helps lower combustion chamber temperatures, but fine. You should only need the 2 plates. One to keep the exhaust gasses from coming out the back of the head, and one to keep the intake plenum part from being a big hole. The exhaust gasses can still...

    wish me luck

I think that the better clutches are actually the ones that are more capable of taking that kind of abuse. It also ... discourages the development of bad habits. That said every time the car lurches to a really bad third gear start because my daughter forgot to put it back into first hurts a lot.

Is this normal for a front bumper?

Normal for a front bumper where you've driven into a few curbs. Mine is like that, my old one got like that after a bad tow which ripped the lower lip off.

    wish me luck

I've been teaching my daughter to drive a standard in the Supra, and she has her learner's license. (It's been somewhat nerve wracking for me.)

pros/cons running bigger wheel in rear

If you want to run a larger diameter tire in the back, then you'll have speedo issues. It'll change the caster on the front a bit as well, but whether significant or not, I can't say. If you're planning on keeping the same rolling diameter front and rear, then this is backwards. You'd want the...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Well, at least I've got the '89 on jackstands today in preparation for removal of the R154 so that I can have a clutch for my '90.

    Are there any companies that...

Guilty as charged. :( If I can do the job better and/or cheaper and it will be good enough for me, then I'll do it. This is the category that my own IC piping falls into. Otherwise, I go as good as I can afford. There is still a level of "good enough" in there somewhere, but generally that's...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Searched the garage. Found the bolt for the EGR cooler and the fasteners for the #3 cylinder head cover. Installed. Installed the lower intake manifold. Getting new injectors Friday, so I didn't install the fuel rail. Need to seriously clean it anyway before installation. I need to get those...

re-using a crank that had .50 taken off

You buy bearings to fit what was taken off of your crank (And if they had to do more than a polish to the block for the mains and whatever they had to resize your rods to.) So for clearances, so long as you can buy bearings, that part is okay. If you've still got the hardness on the surfaces...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

A bit of work on my engine. (I'd actually intended to work on pulling the transmission from my '89, but when I opened the garage door...) Cams installed. The pin on the exhaust cam is missing. Not in the box of stuff I got back from the machine shop. :( Cam seals installed. A crank timing gear...

re-using a crank that had .50 taken off

Best I can tell, it's a crapshoot at that much. I have one that's had 0.75 and 0.5 taken off of it, which I got from a working pull, and it just polished up. It was apparently just fine, but I opted not to use it, and instead got one that's had 0.25 taken off cranks and mains. If mine had been...

    hks fcd extremely lean. help!

Pull codes. Check Vf signal while it's running that lean. If there are codes, fix what's wrong. I would probably check O2 sensor, Injectors/Injector wiring, and AFM/AFM wiring in any case. If there are no codes and your Vf signal reads normal, then check the wideband. Something running at...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

There's basically a percentage adjustment that the ECU makes to the fuel curve as its learned value. When you disconnect the battery, it "forgets." This is what resetting the ECU does is puts it back to forget mode. Until you get it warmed up and driving in closed loop for a while, your engine...

    hks fcd extremely lean. help!

What the FCD does is basically clamp the AFR signal so that it cannot read past a certain amount, effectively telling the ECU that there is never more airflow than this. It is supposed to be set to somewhere very near where fuel cut happens. With this, lean WILL happen. It's more dangerous the...

    Boost gauge help

I tied in to vacuum off the nipple at the back of the intake manifold. That's the one that goes across to the climate control heater VSV and over the other way to the cruise control. There's a vacuum pump on that line on turbo models, so there may be unintended consequences, but since my '89...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Just accidentally punched a hole in the '89's gas tank. The ground underneath it is a lot softer than I thought, and when I tried to settle the rear onto the jack stands (With angle iron underneath them, which was adequate before) the stands pitched forward, and the jack head went from under the...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

I won't seafoam my 7M. At all, ever. This weekend, I've got to drop the transmission in my '89. I'm going to rob the clutch that I put in it last fall to put into the '90. Since the '89 is suffering from rod knock, it's not going to need a stage 3 clutch for a while. Actually, when it's all...
