My 87 TT did the same thing - I turned out the AFM was bad and the fuel
filter was cloged causeing a very lean condition. After a very short drive the
turbo was glowing red--
I feel your pain, I lived in Hunters Creek (south Orlando) for 2 years and the
HOA was a real pain in the *&%$. My Supra left a oil stain in the driveway
and we got letters every 2 weeks about it. My supra sat for nearly 6 mos
without anyone saying anything guess it depends on your neibors...
My 87 TT does exactly the same thing. Tryied all the same things you have
done - no help. It is a blown HG though not severe. The combustion gasses boil the coolant forcing it out I have noticed that
once the coolent level has droped down to a level about 2 to 3 inches from
the filler neck...
All the numbers below will work-

The trip meter no longer resets. Is it possible to replace just that part of
the instrument cluster? Or will I be stuck replacing the intire cluster?
Or is it possible to repair just this part?

Just moved from Orlando back to Atlanta. Orlando does have its good points
however you had better like big time HEAT. From end of MAY till end of Sept.
the temp will be in the 90s or more with humidity to match. Atlanta still has
4 seasons which I like unlike Orlando which has 2 - short...
This diagnosis is right on the money, mine does the same thing. I have noticed that it occurs less when the heater valve is closed. Also if the system is slightly low on coolant it is not as bad either. I have to continue to
drive this thing till my new engine is finished. A slight leak of...
For myself, and my 87 TT - is like the very smooth ride, the incredibly smooth
engine (think this is due to the inline 6 confg.) the weight of the car gives it
a very very, good ride, the options in the car are 15-20 years ahead of its
time. The engine although not that strong strong hp wise...
I am still collecting parts for my rebuild. Would like this thing to be
fairly strong mechanicly (shooting for 350-400 whp). If you replace the rod bolts do the rods have to be resized?
I know changes in main cap bolts they should be line bored. Are the ARP
rod bolts a good invesment seems...
Ok Ok so this has been done for a while. How long will a car like that last,
is is like a top fuel car with a life span measured in min's. or one summer of
street driving or is like a stock Carolla good for 200,000 miles. Just curious.
On the cover of the March issue of Turbo mag. there is a MK4 Supra.
This thing is putting out (so they claim) 1039 HP w/o nitrous and over
1300 with---. Is this really possible? It seems it is the first full weight
supra to turn in the 8s (8.89) in the 1/4 mile. This guy is running 30-40...
From what I have seen the interiors hold up better than average compaired to
say Nissan or Honda. Except for the weak stock head gasket the engine is
VERY robust. With new high tech head gaskets and bolts or studs head gasket is no longer a problem. My 87 turbo targa was stone stock and now...
That worked fine with the other caps but the #4 is blocked in by the counter
weights which will make it hard to get to. Also the the dip stick guide is in the way---
Will try lifting the crank see what happens.
Just finishing up the teardown on a JDM 7mgte. I got to the main bearing
caps to remove the crank and cap #4 (the one with the thrust washer) refused to come loose.
(yes the bolts are out). I don't want to pound it or risk stricking the crank etc.
Whats the best way to disloge this...
I have just begun the rebuild of a JDM 7M-GTE purchased off Ebay. After the teardown must say all looks very good. The head gasket was a stopper type with stock head bolts but showed no signs whatever of leakage. I have purchased an HKS metal head gasket and ARP studs to put it back together...
