I had a black smoke problem, and I checked around, and couldn't find any leaks in the lower IC pipes...turns out, it was this coupler. Replace it with silicone and you'll be good to go!
When driving does your car feel any different? Laggy? Hesitates etc.?
If so, thats another...
Could very well be a serious boost leak. The car "thinks" that it is getting x amount of air from the turbo, so it puts in x amount of fuel to match. But, because of the leak, the car runs WAY too rich, causing the black smoke.
A leakdown test will give you a little more in-depth reading of a compression check. It puts pressure into a cylinder, one at a time. And it reads how much pressure is leaking out, through either the exhaust side, intake side, or piston rings. Some leakage is normal on most cars.
Maft-pro is similar in that it is a piggy back. But It just has more options.
Basically the only thing that SAFC can do is just that...Control the A/F...where as Maft can do timing etc.

Like him, not to be mean, but there have been several threads on the SafcII in the past few days alone.
Search before you post almost always!
Yeh, pull the plugs, check those, and then make sure the wires are intact, no shorts any where along the lines, and make sure there isn't any oil floating around in the galley to short things out.
And possibly, depending on codes, check out the TPS
