With about 150 miles into my 7MGTE Swap...Finally no codes.
I can go up our grade on the freeway at 75 or 80 in 5th gear no problem.
My old 7MGE you had to shift down into 4th and then it still semmed to be working.
The new 7MGTE doesn't even feel/sound like its working hard...
Like Squid said, just cuz its jdm doesn't neccessarily mean that its okay.
When I called around for my GTE swap, one guy told me that some of the engines they get from Japan or elsewhere will sit for up to 3 years before they are sold.
DId you check your timing - cam and ignition? Do...
You mean you did a JDM turbo swap into an NA chassis?
Gimme more details. Does it crank?
The na cams are mostly the same exepct for the intake cam (I think). You probabaly wont notice a whole lot of difference anyhow.
I notice it upon starts, ecspecially in the morning and upon decel.
But normal freeway driving I don't really notice it at all.
Looks like my used/rebuilt head has old valve stem seals... :thumbsdow
It seems to me that at idle I can smell burnt oil or when slowing down or accelerating from a stop.
Startup is the worst though and for a minute or so after that.
If the idle is jumpy my first guess would be to check vaccum lines, but you said you already did that.
Hmmm???
When's the last time you put new plugs and wires and changed fuel and air filters? Maybe a tune-up is in order.
Upon startup and for the first minute of driving I get a considerable amount of smoke from the exhaust pipe. After that it goes away.
This is a 7MGTE swap. The bottom end is brand new. New everything. The head I bought used which apparantly had been rebuilt recently.
The turbo is also...
87 Turbo Swap 5-speed.
Had code 52 up until a week ago. Got that fixed. Now this weekend took it out for its first real drive. While driving at about 35 and 55 the tach went from 4,000 to zero then immediatly back up and check engine light came on for a few seconds then went away...
Yeah, lets get some input on the board on this so the rest of us know too.
But I think a 2.0mm MHG will probably take care of any clearance issues. Get one and put it on and see what it looks like.
Your compression will def be higher too.
Let us know what you find out.
The fact of the matter is that we don't know.
We have approximatley 150 years of recorded weather history. When you compare that to how long the earth has been here, you can base 150 years of history to predict the future.
Sure we've had ice ages before and warming trends before, and its...
Just curious, why do you want a whole other gauge cluster?
All you need to do is do some modifications to the tach and everything should work just fine.
I literally just got done with the exact same swap three weeks ago.
If you need help, lemme know.
