A while ago I posted questions on smoking exhaust. Symptons: Would not smoke upon immediate startup. After about 30 seconds it would smoke at all times and ecspecially when given gas, and when given gas it would leave a trace of black spray on the concrete directly behind exhaust tip...

If you buy and MK3 you won't be wasting money on a beater...You will be spending money on repairs and mods. IMHO, a street bike for an 18 year old is not a good idea.
