I would inspect the three ignition coil's and test for resistance in them, then is your AFM in good working condition? IMO I would change those bosch plugs cuz I had tons of backfires when I had those(im running NGK's now). Do you have any engine codes?

When I ordered two new from toyota they were the same two peices but I when I removed the old gaskets, one did not seem like the same shape as the new one. I know you can reverse them but it still seemed like it would not work.

Im in the process of fixing that same problem right now. On mine it sounded like it was coming from the middle of the top of the cylinderhead. Sean, do you hear the noise when the car is at idle? Have you tried to remove the sparkplug wires from one cylinder to another?

Is the noise you hear like a metal grinding noise? Mine makes that noise is park as well and only in park. When was the last time the trans filter was serviced?

I never thought of it but I would not get one.

The inspection plate is a black plate in front of the transmission right under the rear of the oil pan(4 bolts hold it in iirc).
