The clutch fan cools the best and most effeciently out of any aftermarket fan you might consider using on a daily driver. Electric fans work fine on drag cars, but if this isn't your weekend warrior that you're talkin about, stick with the OEM clutch fan.
It doesn't sound horrible. It sounds like a mixture of the stock bpv and surge. Go look in the parts reviews if you want opinions and prices on an aftermarket bov. I went with the HKS SSQV, personally.

Yes, it's been known to weaken the spring. Shimming's pretty stupid when you could just do it the right way and buy a MBC for anywhere from 20-50 bucks, yeah.
Boost increases hp technically I guess... what really increases hp is flow. If you throw down 20 psi on a stock CT26 and then pull 20 psi on a BorgWarner S595, you're gonna see a huge difference in whp because the BW would be flowing at least 1,000 jiggawatts more than the CT.
