    A Southern Rebuild.... Take Two

Finally got the motor rebuilt and took it for a test drive. I barely got down the street when the motor started to knock. (insert favorite cuss words)!! I turned the car around and drove back into the shop. We started the the tear down and found a crack in #5 cylinder wall. It's about an inch...

    Identifying Cams

I have two sets of cams. One set is out of an 88 7MGE and the other is out of an 86.5 7MGE. I'm not sure if the set out of the 86.5 are stock. Those cams have a "3" on them and are 2mm taller than the 88's. And there are no names stamped in either sets of cams. My questions are: Could...

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

IT LIVES!!!! IT LIVES!!! Today I finally got the motor put back together and she turned over on the first try. I just need to fix some minor things and the motor will be done. I few things I noticed about the cams from the second motor. Instead of having a number 6 on them they had a...

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

I spent the last week doing a engine-transmission swap. The good parts was that the bottom end of the donor motor was definitely rebuilt. But unfortunetly the top end wasn't. I've officially joined the BHG club. After the motor was dropped in and wired up we turned the key and NOTHING! Which...

what do your parents do with you and your car?

My folks won't touch my cars. But they let me store my cars and parts at thier place. My stepdad has supported me in my endevours and gave me a place to live after my life went to hell and I went back to school for Auto Tech. After I get my Supra up and running and Integra rebuilt my next...

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

Finally got the motor pulled out of the parts car. Strange thing is that we found new parts on the motor. New belts New oil pan gasket Fresh oil Fresh antifreeze New timing belt New spark plugs We are thinking that the motor was rebuilt before it went to the junkyard. If so then all...

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

Today was payday so I was at the bank taking care of some bills. I was speaking to the loan officer telling him about the parts car and how much I wanted to get it. Next thing I'm in his office doing paperwork for a loan. Between the hours of 8:45am until 2:45pm I was driving to the...

    Piggyback EM Question

The Jet box I found works with the MAP. Finally found the parts # and looked it up. Apearently this box over-rides sensor output to the ECU. It may not work in my Supra but it can work in my Integra.

    Piggyback EM Question

I was cleaning out my Supra and I found a Jet Performane control unit. It hooks up to the TPS and MAP sensors. My questions are: Are they any good? Would it be wise to use on a NA build?

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

This just sucks... I found a parts car for a steal of a deal that's in better condition than my car. Problem is it's has no title. It's a complete car with little damage if any.

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

Hopefully this weekend I can finally get my crankshaft so I can start rebuilding the bottom end. I decided to go with a silver and black color scheme with blue accents for the motor. The block got a coat of silver with the waterpump housing, timming belt cover, motor mount painted black. The...

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

The guy who fixed my block took off just enough to get the deck flat. The amount that he took off would barely affect the CR. Something like .01:1 increase, but he said the block has been decked before. I have to take it back to get the water pump housing fitted and shaved. The crank would...

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

I talked to the guy and he said it bumped the compression up to 9.9:1. Not much but the head will probably need to be shaved a little to get it flat again. Maybe I'll hit 10:1 after the head gets fixed with a thinner HG.

    A Southern Supra Rebuild

Last week I put the block into the shop to be prepped for the rebuild. The block was decked, honed, bearings replaced, rod #5 replaced, pistons checked out and cleaned, saddle straightened, and the block cleaned. The guy said the block was slightly warped and had to take some off to get it flat...

    New Supra owner from Alabama

I've heard of Team Venture Racing. Some good and some bad. But since H&M is giving me a place to work on and a place to store my cars, and parts at wholesale prices, I'll be staying with H&M. The guys don't mind me haning out there on my off days and teaching me the finer points of building...

A friend of mine is taking pics of the tear down and rebuild. Once the motor is done the transmission will be next. Then the brakes and suspension will come afterward. In the meantime I get to track down electrical gremlins... oh joy....

Got bad news from the shop. Rod #5 is egg-shaped and can not be fixed and the crankshaft is shot. Now I have to decide if I want to punch out the block 20 or 30 over and if I'm going to stroke the motor. Thankfully my friends at H&M Customs are helping me out with parts and such to...

    New Supra owner from Alabama

Hmmm October.... I don't think "Mid-life Crisis" will be up and running by then. She's in some sad shape. She's been sitting in a back yard for over a year now and in need of serious TLC and rebuilds. Engine, transmission, brakes, suspension, and body work. Once I hear back from the shop I...

    New Supra owner from Alabama

Hello from Tuscaloosa, I've recently bought a 1988 NA Supra with targa top as a graduation present to myself for spending the last two years going to school full-time and working full-time. I purchased the car for 600 USD because it had a knock. Appearently rod #5 spun and ate it's...
