    Jaguar_5's 87 Turbo Build

Made a lot of progress today! Got the 3 shims I was waiting on from toyota, so all my valve clearances are taken care of, cams are in and all torqued up, sealed up, finished the timing assembly, did a full 360 to ensure it wasn't going to skip a tooth :) Exhaust on, turbo on, mostly just...

to copper spray or not to copper spray

If you're talking about the coolant bypass union in the back of the head, it's 32mm

    New Headgasket Opportunity

I agree with you entirely! I was pretty much just saying that even if they were comparable, this logic is still flawed because Sparkplugs are a regular maintenance item, while a HG obviously shouldn't be

    Jebus' Build/Bolt on Thread

    Jaguar_5's 87 Turbo Build

Soo many little things it always adds up so quick, I've spent so much money already and I still have so much more for my ultimate goal  Ordered a lipp stainless spark plug valley gasket, as well as stainless allen head hardware for the valve covers, and a Hosetechniques vacuum hose kit...

Uhm, you don't want to replace your HG as often as you replace spark plugs...

    Jaguar_5's 87 Turbo Build

Thanks =) Got abit more done today, got the head installed and torqued down, a few other small things here and there, I'm waiting on some shims from toyota that I'll get on saturday so that I can put the cams back in, and do the rest of the timing assembly!

    Jaguar_5's 87 Turbo Build

Made abit more progress today, re-measured all the valve clearances, but by the time I was done, the toyota parts department was closed, so tomorrow I'll go there and swap out some shims, and get one new one that was missing from when the head first got rebuilt :3d_frown: Once the headwork is...

    Jaguar_5's 87 Turbo Build

^^ Yeah thats the conclusion that IJ. came up with, strange that I got two of the same P/N and they're both the wrong size :icon_conf Jdub, it was already shimmed from awhile ago during this build, it's about 5-6mm :) Forgot to add I also drilled out the J-Tube, real exciting, I know...

    Jaguar_5's 87 Turbo Build

Well, I went back to the original spring for the oil pump! Yesterday I scrubbed the oil pan for at least an hour and a half with a steel brush, removing almost all of the rust, i lost patience and there was still abit here and there... but it was damn close to perfect, i painted black, with...

    Overheated while at idle...

Without really reading your post, and just glancing over the rest of the posts here, heres what I have to say First, what JetJock says! Rebuild your fan clutch if needed, make sure your radiator is good, and not clogged, burp your system! If you have to replace your thermostat or radiator...

Going to put in metal head gasket but...

My machinist had measurements for the block and the head to figure out how much had been shaven off of both, make sure you properly deck both surfaces for that MHG!!! Using the wrong sized gasket, can mess with your compression ratio, too low and you'll have no power, too high and you'll...

    Head Gasket Fun

A tool that will save you alot of time here, is a ratcheting open ended 14mm wrench... trust me :) I got a pretty complete set of metric gear-wrenches from Costco for like $20, freaking great deal!! Before i got the set though, I bought an individual 14mm one, so I now have 2 of those :D

    Just Another Rebuild

Yeah don't be a dumbass like me and mess up a ring, so you have to wait on another set from wiseco! If you do mess one up though, i have one extra upper ring, don't think you're using the .040's though so it's probably no good for ya

    Jaguar_5's 87 Turbo Build

And abit more progress! I noticed that the new spring for the oil pump relief (i got two, the relief in the oil filter adaptor has the same p/n for the spring), is quite abit shorter than the original one I took out of the pump... anyone know anything about this? I double checked the p/n...

    NA Head on Turbo Block

You didn't search, did ya?! They are interchangeable, the only difference that'll actually affect you is the intake cam, on the NA it'll shift your torque curve towards the low end Edit: Wow, 3 replies in 1 minute lol, the valves are NOT smaller on a NA, not sure where you'd get that from...

    hand brake light always on

This sounds random, but iirc, before my alternator died, this same thing happened, until more random lights on the dash came on and the car started to die below 2.5k rpm's
