Was it just me or was the check engine light on as well as the birdcage, might want to look into that. Get a filter and an exhaust and turn the boost up to just under fuel cut thats when the fun begins.
Why get a 57 trim and only run 8psi?? You can safely run 15 psi on a 57 trim. Its only when people start running 18 - 20 psi daily that the turbo's start shitting out. My stock ct 26 has been running 13 psi daily for about 18 months now and shaft play is no worse now than it was when I bought...
I run on V rated tyres up to 149 mph. Can't really see me going above that so no need for Z rated tyres for me.
p.s how do you get that mood thing?? I looked in user CP and couldn't see it
Have you looked behind the plastic pannels infront of the rear wheels?? I had to cut out a lot of rust there and weld in fresh metal. I have the standard rusty rear arches (only light surface rust) but appart from that its pretty solid.
The question you have to ask yourself is why was he parting it out?
a) if its so rare
b) if it is in such good condition
I don't get why people are willing to pay over the odds for a certain year of car. Condition is far more important than the first year of registration. Late MK3's arnt...
The only problem I could see would be having to drill the oil feed pipe for the turbo that is unless its pre drilled from the factory. I would assume like the 7M that turbo and N/A blocks are the same casting.
They used to race at a lower boost level of around 3.5bar which equates to around 1000hp, the cylinder head and liners were cast as one piece so no head gasket to worry about. The engine's were made of magnisium alloy. The block weighes about 5kg (The BMW engine was a road car block cast iron)
I had to drive my girlfriends car 240 miles with no clutch not an expirience I want to repeat. Drove one of my old cars through rush hour traffic with only 3rd, 4th and 5th clutch was toast by the time I got home. Hill starting in 3rd isn't much fun.
Its all in the tune, a stock head gasket will take a fair amount of boost. But if you start to detonate it will fail pretty quickly. All a MHG does is raise the threshold an make it more likely that you will melt a piston. Headgaskets are cheaper than engine builds so I stick with the stock gasket.
