It doesn't require a computer just jump the terminals and the check engine light should flash the codes at you. If you have no codes it will blink at a steady rate.

Just bump your fuel pressure up a few psi, I think stock is about 38 (vac dissconected) stick a multi meter on the diag box to get the Vf signal and bump the fuel pressure till the readings come back to 2.5v this should keep you closed loop fuling pretty close.
By the way bearing material is non ferrous so will not stick to a magnet. Best to cut your filter open and inspect it. Changing oil every 1500 miles is not needed modern oils are good for 6000+ miles if you need to change something change your filter every 3000 miles.
Looks to me like the engine has been re bored and the person who did it stopped where the piston stops and didn't go right the way to the bottom of the cylinder. Or thats the only explination I can think of.....
