    Somebody's New Setup

Duane, looking pretty sweet there! I think Allan was talking about this: That's the stock oil cooler bypass adapter, correct? If I'm not mistaken it cools the oil then dumps it back into the sump so basically is a controlled leak and steals pressure from the whole system. Is yours...

Aw man, but you just got here!

    Pre-lube Suggestions

So definitely clean it all off in my case then. Before I put the head back on, I'll make sure the bores and rings are dry. Thanks for the advice!

    Pre-lube Suggestions

So Nick, if someone knows they'll be taking a long time to complete a build, and they're trying to minimize rust forming on the cylinder walls, so have applied oil to the rings/pistons for that purpose alone, what would you recommend to remove the oil before assembly is complete? I'm thinking...

So you're not using the 7m crank from the black car?

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Too true. So the second part of what you mentioned above about specs - are you referring to specs as in specifications or spectacles? I must say I'm just a little bit confused...

    Update on Progress

Looking gorgeous! I've loved that red since the fist small pic I ever saw of this build - good to see you've been making steady progress. Is your alum stuff just sandblasted? It has that nice matt silver finish that all my sandblasted parts have. I love the contrast on yours!

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Do I detect a hidden message there? ;) In all fairness, I'm just as unexcited about spending $250 on something I thought I could do myself as she is!

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Spoke with the machinist - about $250 for a valve job, including new shims/buckets. I would think those wouldn't be required so I may go elsewhere or continue grinding to see how much effort is really going to be required. My wife is not even remotely happy about $250 in one chunk so if I go...

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Duh! The 5m ones are huge in comparison!!! Thanks Ian!

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

There was enough "wiggle room" in the shims from before that I think it'll be alright. However, buying diamond paste might cost as much as getting a proper job done! I'm using the carbide stuff and I don't remember it being this difficult with the 5m and the valves/seats were in MUCH worse...

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Exactly what I've been thinking of doing. I didn't want to spend a pile of money but this is threatening to take me weeks if I do it myself!

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

Minor Update: Had high hopes of getting a whole bunch done this weekend but ended up taking a lot longer to do the little things than what I'd planned. Here's the list (I love lists!): rough grind ex valve faces and seats finish grind (polish) intake valves and seats chase threads in block...

    Lucy - Im home!

So what was it? Last suggestion was temp sensor but you didn't say whether that was it or not. Glad it's running well, that has to be a huge relief!

    Update on Progress

Hah, I wasn't afraid or I wouldn't have asked! And I use the word "ignorant" in the strictest sense, which to me, just means uninformed of the facts. Thanks for clarifying though Reign! I'm a huge advocate of asking questions on this forum - the collective knowledge around here is staggering...

    Update on Progress

That looks pretty sweet! I'm probably displaying my ignorance here, but what are the little "post" things around the windshield frame? R/M says: you are not ignorant... That's a good question! Never be afraid to ask a question, it's how you learn stuff, by asking... :D

Whoo hoo! They certainly take their time, don't they? I guess that's a good thing though. I've got gaskets for that elbow if you need 'em.

    MickyG's MX-73 to 7M-GE Swap

That it is so I'll not worry. It was more of an issue last night when I saw two that would technically fit. Got that sorted by digging out the old one in my "bucket o' bits" that I keep on hand. Glad I didn't pitch it!

All right Ian, you win! So, er hmm... Anyone know if that seal fits anywhere on a Toyota 7M engine?
