My rings are all oiled up, so safe there. But this was specifically in relation to turning the crankshaft - even before the rods/pistons were installed, if memory serves.
Thanks! Might I just mention that those ring compressors suck! The one I bought was only semi-round and in order to get it to go around the rings the whole thing was so deformed it'd rotate the aligned rings when you'd tighten it. What a pain!
All good now though and the whole assembly is...
Progress Report:
Got the other 5 pistons in last night!
Couple of pics:
1. "device" for getting pistons to 60 degrees in order to insert pin (bucket, hot water, thermometer)
2. "device" in action
3. assembled reciprocating assembly :biglaugh:
4. pistons back in block

Today:
Spent the whole day doing all sorts of things but have only one piston/rod installed to show for it. Sometimes the best laid plans for the day just don't end up happening...
Spray gun cleaning kit made me think it was a cleaning kit that attached to a spray gun. You know, a tube on the end of the bottle brush to use the brushes and air pressure both. I re-read your post and realised the error of my ways. Sorry, massive brain fart!!!
I'm heading out to...
Last Night:
Picked up a box of goodies from IJ, as well as my brand new rods (well, almost) from Allan! You guys both rock!
Also experienced the "IJ special" pizza - not bad!
Today:
Swapped old pistons to new rods
Thoroughly cleaned out the tiny little oil passages from the oil...
Plans for the weekend
Plastigauge Rods
Clean up head completely
Test fit exhaust manifold to see how many holes need to be helicoiled
Thoroughly clean out oil passages (yes, that means removing the crank again - DOH!!!)
Finish bottom end
I don't have an exact tool (rifle cleaning kit) to...
You'll want to start right there - if you've got no network adapters in the device manager (just right click your "my computer" icon and click properties, hardware, device manager) you're not going to be able to get anything connected.
Have you got other computers in the house that work with...
Then they get bent up toward the steam holes to get them out of the way. Makes sense - and I was all excited about them being some sort of heat concentration device, used for localised boiling of the water for extra cooling (phase change from liquid to gas consumes a fair bit of energy)!
I thought it was that or possibly some method of localised water to steam device. That's a long shot though - still it seems possible since the steam vent is directly overhead.
It helps greatly! I don't feel quite so stupid now either. I figured it must've been some clutch actuator replacement and am pleased I wasn't too far off.
Very nice and clean by the way! As is the rest of your work!
I'll admit to being the one here who has no idea what your "custom release system" is. Ron, can you explain that one a bit further? I'm seeing the hydraulic lines in the transmission but not sure if that's it or if I've just never seen the inside of the bellhousing on these things!
As usual, the day was not without a few items that I had questions about! I popped a freeze plug off to assess how bad they were and was pleasantly surprised to find they're almost totally corrosion free! There was rust on the back of the plug but it wasn't from the plug, just deposited there...
Mik, not even close! I'm just now getting things put back together so it'll be a few weeks before the motor's even close to finished!
Today
Went out to the Melbourne Toyota BBQ today and finally put a few faces to some names - sorry I didn't hang aroung a bit longer, had a busy day...
