10000000000. A lot of MkIII guys go 1.5JZ because they already had a 1JZ and wanted more displacement, but already had a nice turbo set up. 1Js are easier to swap in, as well. 1.5JZs run off of 1J electronics so it's basically just an easier to swap in 2JZ.

I voted option 2. Thicker hg (just a stock GTE HG will work fine) and single and go fast. I'd also say just get an R154 until you can afford a V160. Driftmotion can make a shifter extension so it'll work just right, they did it for Element not too long ago.
