Haha yeah, I've seen your video before and it's quite a dizzying ride! Your car is a lot quieter than mine, but then again the recording is from the driver's seat =\
Our engines actually don't shake and move around all that much, and the hood is close enough to the top of the engine that I'm pretty sure it would at least not fly off the mounts. Plus you've still got the tranny mount and other small things holding it in the same general area (wiring, hoses) :D
Wow, I wish mine looked that good for $500! The best spring and strut combo IMO is the bilstein shocks and RS-R race springs. However, you're looking at close to cheaper coilover prices with that combo =\ Turbo is the way to go if you want more power, but make sure the engine's up to it :)
I've been having problems with a weird tapping noise that seems to be coming from my engine for ages now, and after looking up some Supra videos on youtube and listening to them, it seems 7Ms are noisy in general. I've seen a bunch of videos where the same exact noise is present! I still don't...
Checked that, it's not the pulley :) That would be a tough one to track down if it was though!
edit: A thought just came to me! If my flywheel were loose, wouldn't the noise change when I engage/disengage the clutch?
Maybe I just haven't been paying enough attention :icon_bigg I know for sure mine don't have pinstripes though (I went and checked to make sure lol) and can't remember any locals with them. I'm not sure if I like them or not =\
Ohhh that's a good bit of info, I should probably check it that way instead of pulling the trans right off just in case it's not really the FW and I end up wasting a few hours and feeling dumb :D
I used some loctite knockoff stuff :( It looked pretty legit, I forget the name of it. It's amazing how many different loctites there are though, now I know to look for 262 :D
I did that last time but completely forgot to do it this time!
Results are no change. The noise is still there... This does mean it shouldn't be a rod then right? I have a feeling I might be taking my trans off :(
Manual. I just drove it up and down the street again and the tap is slightly louder :(
It's on all the original clutch/flywheel components except for new flywheel bolts and a new pilot bearing. Would an out-of-balance clutch assembly make a tapping noise...?
If it's worth anything I also bent the pickup tube down so the screen is just above the bottom of the pan and the oil's always been full since the rebuild.
I have good oil pressure verified by a mechanical gauge now, but still hear the tapping noise. It didn't actually get rod knock anytime...
