just to ask the obvious question... is the coolant clean?
I had a similar problem, and people told me BHG.... Well it wasn't. It was dirty coolant, and a crappy radiator. I replaced it with a Fluidyne and put in a new thermostat, and cooled perfectly ever since.
Your radiator may not...
Jeez I can't even imagine how much a custom cast bell housing would cost.
Me personally though, I'd love a V160 on my car if I had the extra 5g's to throw around.
I would also advise waiting on the exhaust until after you've decided if you're gonna go turbo, or stay NA. No point in buying a NA exhaust if you're gonna go turbo.
But if you decide to stay NA, Find a place that can build a good custom exhaust. It will be cheaper, and you won't be...
Do a search, and somewhere you'll find the spreadsheet file that has a breakdown of the weights of individual things.
Curb weight on the car is about 3400. With Gas, passenger, etc. you can expect the car to weigh around 3700 I'd say.
I'd say the quickest ways to drop weight are to...
ok well i know I'm a little late to the party, but I ALWAYS have success with a breaker bar. I've encountered at least 4 or 5 bolts that gave me a headache with a regular socket wrench, but came loose in like a second with just a breaker bar.
Best 12$ you can spend IMO.
I've got allen bolts on the valve covers, forgot to mention that, so I've got that covered.
I've had some people tell me use toyota gaskets or silicone gasket. Debating if i want to try and make these Felpros work, or just ditch them and get silicone gaskets.
Old gaskets are gone.
Got some Felpros, and those are the ones that are leaking. They were a little long originally. I had to press em in from both ends, and kinda wedge them in to make em fit.
People seem to have hit/miss success with Felpros. What is the problem with using RVT...
Ok so I've been having trouble with my valve cover gaskets (and according to the searches I've done, I'm not the only one). The new gaskets are leaking near the back by the firewall, and maybe other spots...
but anyway, I'm gonna try and fix it tomorrow; gonna check to make sure they're...
Apparently I should have made it MORE clear that i've already read this thread!
Maybe i should make it clearer, that I'd like advice based on what I already have, or anything else that the above thread DIDN'T cover.
But to reiterate the question i asked earlier, are there any differences...
Ok so here's my poopra when I got it, July of 2008
Here's my bad mofo as it is today...
Here's what I've done so far
Full Repaint
Apexi power intake
divorced downpipe
Titan Cat
Custom Cat-back
Fluidyne Radiator
Cross drilled Brembos
Performance Techniques 57 Trim ct-26...
Wasn't planning on cutting my springs. Bilsteins have adjustable spring perches (at least for Supras) so it can be lowered a bit...
I don't really want to bother with coilovers for my car since I'm just doing autocross for fun, and I'd prefer comfort over perfect handling that is rough...
Its cool. I just didn't want people to think I came in here and started a thread without searching or reading first.
Mainly i'm concerned about traction arms and trying to minimize the wear and tear on the car (I know that there will always be a risk of breaking something while drag racing).
