MA70 vs JZA70 strut tower brace

I need a new front strut tower brace. Most available are for the JZA70. Will these strut tower braces fit properly an an MA70 without issues are are spacers needed? In my case I don't have TEMS so that isn't a concern for me. If spacers are required, how thick do they need to be? Thanks.

    7M head and block dimensions

I am about to have a block and head machined for a MHG. Does anyone know what the thickness is for the stock head and the height of the stock block? I bought an engine that was not supposed to have been machined but I want to take some measurements to be sure so I buy the correct thickness of...

    Wheel Fitment & Question Thread

Heres a few pics: Ist pic shows a 265 35 18 on the passenger rear. Camber looks off in most pics because it was just lowered off of the jack. 2nd pic shows the 275 35 18. Note how the tire sticks out past the fender. 3rd pic shows the 265 again - fits nice 4th pic top view of the...

    Wheel Fitment & Question Thread

The tires are Yokohama AVS DB S2 and they certainly stuck outside the fender much more than yours. Your current setup is more like mine with the 265's. Maybe the offset on the Thruxtons isn't a true +35? I'll try to post a few pics later.

    Wheel Fitment & Question Thread

After test fitting my 18x 9.5 Thruxtons with 275 35 18"s, I have decided to stick with the 265's that I ran last year. They had no rubbing issues at all. The 275's literally stuck out past the wheel well at least 1/4". I compressed the suspension as far as I could and they wouldn't touch the...

    Wheel Fitment & Question Thread

Hey s!ke, what size Thruxtons are you running on the rear and what sized tires? My car is the red MKIII posted by sawbladz and in the pic are the 18 x9.5 rears with 275 35 18's. I test fit a 275 35 18 today and it looks like it is sticking out of the fender well way too far and might might...

Opinions: metallic vs ceramic core catalytic converters

Anyone have some facts about the efficiency of a metallic core vs cermaic core catayltic converter? I am looking for the cleaning efficiency (for emissions) of the two substrates and not the flow capability. Thanks

    DIY Boost Leak Tester

Tested my set up and found quite a few leaks, the largest was from the BOV mounting flange. I tested up to the 3000 pipe only as there was too much air leakage at the throttle body etc. How did I cap off the end of the intercooler pipe before the 3000 pipe?? I stuck a beer bottle in the end...

    Spark Plugs

The Autolite plugs are a bit shorter than the stock plugs. I have heard of issues of the spark plug wire boots popping off of the plugs causing issues. Any truth to this??

Boost drop - weak wastegate spring??

Thanks, if the wastegate port is cracked (and I know most do), I will most likely leave it until next year and do my turbo / engine upgrade. :icon_frow

Boost drop - weak wastegate spring??

Thanks, I will try that. I did check for boost leaks but did that visually. I will do a pressure test of all components this weekend.

Boost drop - weak wastegate spring??

Had my MKIII on the dyno this w/e for tuning and found that I am losing boost. Car boosts great to 14.5 psi at about 3200 rpm but slowly loses boost to redline, actually it drops off pretty quickly after hitting 14.5. Boost will drop to about 12 psi by the time I hit redline. No hose leaks...

    Brake pad recommendations

Just ordered the Porterfield R4S's directly from Porterfield. Up until Christmas they have free UPS ground shipment within the US. Won't install them until the spring but I will at least be ready with all of the parts. :icon_bigg

    Brake pad recommendations

Thanks for the feedback. I have also used the Porterfield pads in the past and had great luck with them. Low dust and easy on the rotors. I will investigate availability. Hope the Hawks aren't too abrasive - that's what I will be putting in my 4Runner.

    Brake pad recommendations

I have been using Hawk HPS brake pads in my MKIII with good results. I am installing Wilwood calipers this winter and would like to know if anyone could recommend a Wilwood brake pad compound that would be suitable for street only use. I still may go with the Hawk pads but I thought I should...

How to remove a MKIII front axle hub??

I want to remove the front wheel axle hubs, to unbolt the brake dust shields so I can trim them properly for my big brake upgrade. The TSRM says I am supposed to remove the whole steering knuckle to disassemble the hub from the knuckle. Question is - if I disconnect the tie rod end, rotate...
