Routine oil change - very little oil drained but dipstick shows full

Ok tried some things today and here's what I found: I stuck a plastic stick into the drain hole and moved it around..no sludge at all. Plastic came out mostly clean. Next I poured about a quart of oil in the fill hole and it started draining normally after about 8-10 seconds. So there's no...

Routine oil change - very little oil drained but dipstick shows full

Unfortunately I won't be able to check anything until tomorrow, got called into work early. Super51fan, that's a good thought on the oil control rings, however the smoke i get is pure white, not blue, so I don't believe it is burning oil (at least a lot of oil). Still thinking it may be sludge...

Routine oil change - very little oil drained but dipstick shows full

Ahh yes I realize how ridiculous that sounds :P ...let me specify. My driveway has a point where the concrete ends and there is thick dirt/clay going downhill. It's in just a way that if I put the ramps on the dirt and the rear tires are on the concrete the car is almost level front to back. No...

Routine oil change - very little oil drained but dipstick shows full

Could be the valve stem seals, i'll have to check. I did remove the filler cap, didn't seem to make a difference. After some other searching on other car forums i'm leaning towards the sludge build up in the oil pan. Won't be able to check till tomorrow but it seems like the most logical solution.

Routine oil change - very little oil drained but dipstick shows full

Great, thanks for all the ideas! I was thinking to pour in more oil to see if it comes out, but it got dark early. Tomorrow hopefully i will be able to try these and update my progress. If it helps, on a cold start and for a minute or two I get some white smoke coming from the exhaust. It's...

Routine oil change - very little oil drained but dipstick shows full

Yup, it's the stock 19mm plug. The washer looked to be aluminum, but it doesn't seem to have dented the oil pan. I will be using an OEM toyota gasket once this is all done.

Used mk3 with 1jz vs. used with 7m

First ignore/delete the other post. Lets say in general way both cars are built the same, year, condition, etc. Except the one with a 1jz is $1,000 more than the one with a 7m (1jz is $4500, turbo 7m is $3500, these are prices im seeing)

Used mk3 with 1jz vs. used with 7m

Ok, so we all know the big 7m vs. 1jz debate on which is better. Some prefer the 1jz, but its very expensive to swap in and will have similar performance to a tuned 7m. Now what if the car already has a 1jz conversion? In my area I found a mk3 with a 1jz, only about $1,000 more than a...

    Soon to be Mk3 owner!

Yup i prefer the 89+ body styling, but they're all nice! I'm actually pretty lucky in my area theres quite a bit of Mk3s and 4s on craigslist, so I have pretty good pickings. Now that you mention no e testing, maybe an 87 sparks my interest hehe

    Soon to be Mk3 owner!

Haha oh trust me, I know the world of frustration im in for. Maybe its because i'm young (or insane) but i'm prepared for all the expected work, and probably couldn't be happy without owning a mk3. Specs wise i'm not to picky, if life was perfect i'd like a 5-speed 89-92, in black. A blue...
