anyway, i need to know how bad a bhg is...i have found an n/a black, moonroof, 5 spd, in my area which is a freaking miracle.

but the guy said the head gasket blew.

would this require machine work? or does it all depend?

thank you. now someone please delete this thread so people will stop yelling at me.

If you are just posting threads to get your answer quickly because you are too fking lazy to search, you deserve to have me and others "yell" at you...

I think you need to spend some time reading and learning before you do anything further.

I can't tell you how much time I'd spent on here reading the tech threads BEFORE I EVEN BOUGHT MY FIRST SUPRA!!!

Seriously dude.... READ THE INFO THAT IS ALREADY HERE!!!

Posting threads to get a one word answer is a waste of server space.

And more chance you are going to get flamed. I've had my Supra since 88, and I'm still learning, by reading, or maybe I'm just slow:nono:

Im sorry, but after the 2000th time of him being told we have a search feature, one would assume he would use it.

It's actually a self correcting situation. As the busiest, and most knowlegeable of us put him in the category of "time sink", we just don't answer him. Eventually all of his advice will come from people who don't know thier ass from a hole in the wall. The "I heard" and "I read" crowd. The "I know" crowd will have moved on long ago. Most of us already have.

This is the way it works. He's been show this thread, which details how to get help from true experts. But still posts crap like this. We'll have to assume he just wants to waste peoples' time.

This thread will most certainly not be deleted. It is a warning to all of those who would not have their time wasted to stay away.

i'll give a 1 time non searched answer. If its got a BHG, tear the motor apart...antifreeze + bearings = trash. Of the 8 or 9 7Ms i built this past year, every one with a BHG needed bearings.

It was cheaper just to buy a new motor with MHG pre-installed and drop that in than to mess with repairing the old one... plus the local scrap metal guy helped offset the cost...

Well, to answer your question, I don't think you need to machine the head to install a new headgasket. But I guess it all depends on whether you want to go with stock headgasket or metal head gasket(which would need machining).

Here's a link of a N/A build up:

Now where do you find a motor like that? Let us know.

That all depends on who's doing the work. A reman/rebuilt motor plus the labor to drop it in will cost more than a rebuild. A new 7M? Not likely but a reman/rebuilt 7M will probably break his bank. You could go with a used 7M even then you're still going to need to tear down the motor to check for hidden problems that will bite you in the ass later. Go ahead and get the motor fixed. A BHG in a 7M has a knack for taking out bearings and the crankshaft. If you plan on doing the work or some of the work yourself bookmark this webpage and start reading

http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/

Main things you need to get checked out:

Head, block, crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons

Things you will need to replace:

Connecting rod bearings, main bearings, thrust washers, oil pump driveshaft bearings, various gaskets, and the head gasket

(The MHG is mainly for turbo or high compression motors. If you plan on staying stock use a regular HG and torque the head bolts to above 65 Ft/lbs. The main reason 7M's blew HG's was because the torque specs were wrong.)

Never scrap a motor unless it's beyond repair and a machineshop says it's beyond repair. I have a spare block and head sitting in the shop waiting for me to rebuild into a 11:1 CR toy. The previous owner thought it was bad and gave it to me. All it needs is a crank, gaskets, and bearings.
