Just a thought...but if you were to drop and LT1 350 w/ aluminium heads, and use modern gm fuel injection and of course turbo hydro trans (which would make the swap a lot easier than trying to mate a toyota trans), you my friend would have a hell of a daily driver. Any weight gain would be negligable , if there is any weight gain at all.

Side note: If it were me I would keep that puppy looking as bone stock as possible on the exterior. What a sleeper!:eek3dance

my brother has an LT1 w/ aluminum heads in his jeep, with an exhaust cutout :love: (so freaking loud at WOT). His jeep weighs in at 5,000+ pounds and the LT1 makes that thing move very well still. So it would do very well in a supra.

I dont know much about american muscle motors. However, a friend at work is in the middle of swapping a 305 motor I think, out of a camero into his chevy s10 pickup. Sounds like a sweat idea to me putting that much power into a small truck.

Hes been working on it for a few years now, its a slow and long money sucking proccess if Ive ever seen one!

sounds interesting. It'd be interesting to see just how much you have to fabricate and mod the shell to get everything to work. Though different, it might not be "smart" if that makes sense

The 5.0 H.O. is a Chevy SB. I had a Z-28 with the H.O. not but I think 1 or 2 years bebore they changed to the IROC Z-28's. Underrated from the factory HP. Ran very well stock.

There were a few variations of the Chevy 5.0 305 V8. It came carbureted (horrible rochester carburetion), throttle body injection (top mount throttle body with injector jets) and TPI (tuned port injection - true EFI). The third being the best setup. BUT, even the best 305's in the Camaros/Firebirds only developed around 215-230HP. For a big hunk of iron, that's not all that great. I also haven't seen many that respond well to mods. For the best bang for the buck, many guys just swapped to a 5.7 350. They're basically a dime a dozen and can be built so many different ways with great results.

Ford 5.0 302 V8's are another story. These things are bullets out of the factory paired with a T-5 or any other stick transmission, and with a few things here and there, are VERY strong motors.

So basically, 5.0 305's aren't BAD motors...just not something i'd spend money on really...i'd swap in a Ford 5.0 or a Chevy 350. Just my $.02.

LT1 in a MKIII doesn't work so well...

TPI 305 does (you are all forgetting the amount of torque the TPI motors have), and even better if you port the TPI system (or use the better edelbrock pieces) and run a 350 with the system...

also, a 305 and a 350 are the same block....

still think an LSI would be the best bet, has the same great high redline as a 7M, and a huge powerband. Not to mention the aftermarket support for it...
