Wheel stud replacement

I've searched SM, SF, Google, and i've asked a few of my mechanically saavy friends, but i can't seem to find a decent write-up on removing and replacing wheel studs. The previous owner of my car had wheel locks, and i'm guessing he lost the key, because i have one broken stud on each hub. I was doing lower ball joints and stabilizer bars up front the other day and decided to see if i could pull one of the broken studs. I've already ordered five new studs (in case i shear one), and i found washers that fit well enough to pull them through. I took off my caliper and slid the rotor off, and i can't figure out what to do next. I read a few posts about cutting a hole in the dust shield and popping the new studs out/in that way, but what about the back wheels? I have a 91'turbo with ABS, btw. I want to get this done, but i would like to get them replaced without pulling the knuckle or taking my car to a shop. Anybody with previous experience that can give me some pointers?

rip the backing plates right out. mine were more rust/rot than metal. then youve got access to studs up front. havent done any on the back yet so i dont have any pointers for that

Zombie threads ftw!

I figured i would give this one another try because i didn't like my answers very much the first time. I don't mind ripping off the dust plate to gain access, I just don't want to negatively effect my brakes and park my car in a jersey barrier. I have ABS, and i have to do one stud on each wheel.

Rear ones are easy. remove rotor knock them out and install new tighten till flush with hub without rotor.

Front either pull entire hub/knuckle apart or start cutting.

If you have ABS, DO NOT completely do away with the dust shields. @ least in the front, they are necessary for the ABS operation. That is, if you have the good fortune of having functional ABS in the first place:)

Don't rip the dust plates, they are good things :) Repair them if necessary (mine needed some epoxy (maybe there are better ways, idk :D)

Disagree, Found better brake performance when i removed my front shields. More airflow FTW. Still have none with the cobra brakes.
