Ive been giving this much thought and just wondering your opinions are about this,
Considering the 100hp per liter is pretty great though 300hp from a 3L isnt really that good nowdays,Its pretty achievable and when you tell people its got 300hp its like hmmm meh is that all?
Just wanting to know a other thoughts on this matter.
Im hoping for 400hp from my 7m.When i tell some people they are like "WOW thats going to be a monster"
whereas others are like "ohh is that all?"
Whats a good number by todays standards (what ever they are now)

Anyone who's not impressed with 400hp has absolutely no idea what 400hp really is. Most people would be shocked as hell to realize just how much power 300hp truly is. People honestly don't know. They see these one of a kind show cars making psychotic numbers that will never see the street, and people start to think "oh thats normal". They think 800hp on the street is nothing because this one car out of how many produced does it, so why cant I.

I will say it again. Most people don't realize how fast numbers like that are.

If you put them behind the wheel of that 800hp car and they even grazed the gas pedal, they would suddenly become a deer caught in headlights.

Now that a few production cars are starting to touch 400hp I think there needs to be a road course that people need to pass so that they know what they are doing behind the wheel of a monster like that. I bet a lot of people would realize that it's more power than they want to handle.

In the end the world has become jaded because mythical HP numbers are thrown around so casually. The legend that is the 2JZ hasn’t helped matters. People scoff at numbers that they will never see them selfs of feel first hand, just because some company's 1/2 million dollar show car did it once on a DYNO somewhere over the rainbow.

400hp will keep you very entertained in a street car miggles.

I guess ive been seeing too many hp readings from XJzgte's.
Ive had 300hp and you are right about that, that is very entertaining. Ahhh the memories, the speeding tickets, the tyreshop guys asking me what tyres i want to try this time.I suppose if you keep saying 1 number eg 200,then say 250 then after awhile 300 and on and on you loose track of the origional number and you expect too much.
I guess the people who say 400hp isnt much are the kind who look at car mags all day and dream.

HP is just a number, you could have 1000 and still have an unreliable pos. I mean you build a motor like that to race (or just to show how much money you had) and what do race motors do? Blow up. What would your 350 hp do? probably get a BHG at the worste.
I'll keep my super reliable 163 hp before I got a 500 hp engine that I wouldn't trust to drive across town.

*163 hp was BEFORE my spending spree last month*

Exactly. People scream for me to go TURBO all the time, but I'm not ready for that kind of increase in speed or the increase in maintenance. There's a lot more stuff to go wrong with a turbo'd car, and I'm not at that level yet where I can deal with it. I'd be happy with my highly modded n/a engine when it's done, and some day I'll get a turbo car... but I think 250-350whp is plenty enough for me.

^ We all know we would kill to be at 200+

well look at pituala on cs.com, he puts down 290 to the wheels and runs 12s and gets 1.9 60's on the crappy OEM 14" wheels with Michelin Pilots. I don't think I'd want a daily driver that ran any faster than 12s...

I just wanna get on 7mpower.com
Seeing the numbers has inspired me to one day grace their pages. Not sure if i can get on anyways since it hasnt been updated for long time.
I think im adicted to speed. If i dont get to go fast then i get cranky.Dont know why but im happiest when foots floored and the big hand of G force is shoving me back into the seat.

Who needs adhesion anyway? What's it ever done for me? :icon_conf

Wouldn't the entire point of a 800+ hp car be to completely remove adhesion from any equation at any rpm/speed? Or am I missing something?

+200 with a good power band, and a power to torque ratio <1. That is an ideal amount in my mind.
More is better on a gradual basis.

that's an excellent post! people look at my car, which, if you look in the build section, you'll notice that it looks like ass. i tell them i'm pushing around 300rwhp, and they laugh, and say: "out of THAT thing? besides, that's not even alot of power... i thought supras were high horsepower cars...?

i ask them to go for a ride, and when they hang on for dear life in my rustbucket while i rocket to 80+ mph, all the while smiling because i know that i just owned them, even though they may never admit it. ;)

I come from a land down under
Modern Cars with all the driver aids have made life so much easier.

Compare them to a 20 year old Supra with 400rwhp and most people could easily drive the new car without dying but in a Mk3 it's a handful and there is great potential for pain and suffering.

I've been around high performance cars all my life and aren't too bad a peddler but I realise and accept that to get the best from my Mk3 is way beyond my skill level.

In contrast to this I grew up when 300hp was a total monster and almost undrivable in anything other than a straight line so the Mk3 is a dream by comparison! (think skinny tires and leaf springs)

450rwhp here and it's a ground to ground guided missile and I can't think of anything off the showroom floor that will run with it!

i'm just below 350 (342) to the wheels and i think that it's stupid fast....I always pondered the idea of more power (550-600), but now after thinking about it 500HP is way too much for me. It takes some kind of driver that I'm not to harness that power and keep it in check.

The people I work with say "about 350, well that's not too shabby but could be better", but they've never been behind that steering wheel or beside it for that fact when the turbo spools up. I'm absolutely scared to death to drop the hammer on the street, even with high performance tires it's a task just finding traction. Maybe it's just because I'm not a good enough driver, or maybe it's the fear of impending doom when I go WOT.
