I recently bought a 91 Turbo auto. It had a JDM engine 40k-50kmiles. AMS downpipe. High flow cats. custom 3" exhaust and maunual boost cont. Seller estimated about 320hp to crank. Anyway car sat for about 1 1/2 yrs before I bought it. Car ran like a button for about 3weeks. I was on the interstate one night doing between 100-110. When I got off and parked I had high temp and water coming out of the overflow. The car has a 1.2mm HKS MHG. No white smoke or anything so I know it wasnt a blown HG.

I took it to a local guy who suppose to be good with supras. Come to find out the heads needed to re-tourqued (I have ARP head bolts) at 5,000 miles since the engine hadn't seen that since it was put in the car. We retorqued and the temp did a little better but ended up doing the same high temp and overflow thing. We decided it was a warped head from head lift. After 2mos of the car being at the guys house. He said he put a resurfaced head on the car, cometic MHG, new wires and flushed the cooling sytem.

I got the car back and the temp gauge is STILL 1/4 inch from Hot. NOW I AM BEING TOLD by the guy I could have a CRACKED SLEEVE. IS THIS POSSIBLE, OR WHAT IS THE PROBLEM I thought this engines bottom end was stout. What is going on. My car was really fine before all of this. ALMOST TO THE POINT OF SELLING BUT DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP IF I'VE BEEN LEAD WRONG. HELP HELP HELP I LIVE IN BATON ROUGE, LA. WOULD APPRECIATE MORE LOCAL HELP IF POSSIBLE.:1zhelp::1zhelp::3d_frown:

The 7mgte does not have sleeves, When you install a mhg the head, deck, and rear timing belt cover need to machined.

So, If that wasn't done that is why the Temp is still rising and I am having problems. If that is why. What do I need to nexx. What is the process or steps If I tried to do this myself.

Okay first off the 7m-gte has no sleeves. Another thing should of been to check the head and see if it was warped or not. it seems like after he re-torqued it he just guessed the head was crap. What if the head gasket was just junk? Now I think the engine after this should have been torn down, but you do not know the condition of the bottom end and went off his word. ( Which I mean you thought you'd be safe, only because he's a [ Supra Guy ] but now you need to bring it to a machine shop.

If the front timing case was not milled then sometimes the the head will be lifted on that, and things will not seal.

Hope you have not paid him yet, because the job was not done correctly.

Get a machine shop to tear down your motor have it inspected, so you will know * for sure * what your { real } problem is.

Thanks I'll look for a reputable shop here in B.R. LA. any idea of cost I could be looking to dish out on a problem like this. If its over $1,600 I might sell. I do have a extra 7mgte that came with the car it has a Spun rod bearing. should I start with this engine instead. Which is easier.

If I understand correctly what you said was and wasnt done my guess is that the head was not re-torqued after the MLSHG was installed. Uneven torque led to warped head and now you have BHG. If you arent making mochaccino milkshake in the oil then you may be able to save it by pulling the head, milling it and reinstalling, reusing the cometic gasket after stripping the viton and using copper spray. If you do the work yourself and can get fast service on the head you could have it done in a couple days for less than a few hundred bucks total expence.

If you go that route please have the head tested for hardness before you do ANYTHING as it might have been annealed in the first place contributing (if not outright causing) this whole problem.
