no, i want red :biglaugh:

Redline's actually red? Haha weird, we don't have any of their engine oil around here... just their gear oil and water wetter. Where do you order/buy your Redline from?

Fixing your girl's car
Redline 5W-30.

Order it online or try to find a dealer that sells it locally, usually a "performance" shop will be able to order it. And, it's not red.

I cringe at the thought of pouring anything thicker than a 10W-30 in mine.

Exxon is not making enough profit on gasoline, so they're raising the price of the mediocre Grp III oil they sell as a "synthetic".

There's no way I'd pay that for Mobil 1 oil. Given that this company misrepresents what it uses for base stocks leaves a bad taste too...I do not do business with Exxon Mobil in any form.

I just did my oil change w/ Castrol Syntec 5W-50. My very good friend told me that your engine will thank you for it when you decide to beat on it. I like it so far. I wanted to put in Eneos, but didn't have enough $$$, but next oil change i'm going with the Eneos stuff.

Your "friend" must not know how an open bearing (like the ones on a crank) actually work. If he did, he would know that oil flow through the bearings provide better cooling and hydrostatic separation of the bearing surfaces than the boundary layer lubrication afforded by a thick oil. Not to mention the cold flow characteristics of a thick oil resemble honey...good thing you live in a warm climate. He would also know that the greater the viscosity spread on a multigrade oil, the greater the volume of Viscosity Index Improvers (VII'S) required to maintain that SAE grade...thus reducing the amount of actual oil (by volume) there is in the bottle.

Almost forgot...the big marketing push on Eneos is all that extra HP you'll gain by using their oil. If you beleive that one, I've got a bridge up in San Francisco I'd like to sell ya...cheap ;)

But...what do I know :dunno:
Our friends and the local mechanic always knows whats best

he is one and the same. I've seen the result of using it as well. 200k miles on stock twins and they are STILL running strong. but he switched to the eneos sometime in between.

And these "results" are? And what is the reasoning for using a 5W-50?

I'm not entirely against using a thicker oil (I do think a 50W multigrade is too thick), but accommodations should be made to the motor to do so...like looser bearing clearances, -10 lines, an accumulator to provide flow at start up. For most motors out there, a 50W multigrade is way too thick. Try this: Get a bottle of 5W-30 and a bottle of your 5W-50 and put them in the freezer. After an hour or so, pour them side-by-side on a cookie sheet you have set up on an incline. Care to guess which one gets to the bottom 1st and how fast? Guess what's going on inside your engine? Have any idea how this affects your gas mileage? You seriously need to read this: http://63.240.161.99/motoroil/

But...it's your motor...you can do what you want. Especially since I don't seem to know what I'm talking about.

Not to mention your gas mileage ;)
That's what kills me about the Eneos claim that using their 5W-50 increases HP...it defys the principles of fluid dynamics.
