This is an OBX Racing crank pulley and it has a slot for the Woodruff key and I got a new one too.

I understand basic physics, but I still can't see how the crank will be out of balance with everything holding it in place.

It's not the crank being out of balance. It's the explosions that are forcing it to spin that cause the inherent vibrations.

It doesn't matter how buttery the crank turns. But you're welcome to put it on. I'm not bashing, just throwing out some info when I was hell bent on getting one.

Basically you have to think "harmonic" (harmony... Music is vibration) "dampener". It absorbs vibration so the crank doesn't self destruct. Unless you understand mechanical engineering very well, go with the proven solution. Alter at your own peril.

Trust me I know. I built, what I thought would be a bad ass 5th Generation Prelude and the machine shop I USED TO use to put the motor together, did something wrong, because the motor became oil starved, so it started knocking, so I got rid of it and stopped the bleeding.
The car ran like a champ, until it started knocking.

Oh yeah, mine had the slot, but t shop that sold m my lathed tensioner pully said, "all aluminum, I have seen the crank rip the key through the pulley " so he was referring to a steel sleeve insert t reinforce the pulley.

I'll be going fluidyne, next tim I drop some supra monies

The sleeve will go on the very inside, to reinforce the area the woodruf key transfers energy to

Most designs do not incorporate this steel (ring basically) into the aluminum.

Thanks, but I see why that cheap ass regular aluminum crank pulley failed. Mine is made out of aircraft billet aluminum and I'm only going to have about 250 hp at the crank, not 600 + hp! Jesus, you need heavy duty parts when you're pulling that many horses!

I can sense your obious sarcasm, by the way. I do appreciate all the advise. I just will hate to use that old ass rusty looking, heavy ass harmonic balancer! Why would these companies sell you a product that will cause catastrophic failure? I don't get that.
