Vibration in 3rd/4th at 1800rpm to 3000rpm

As above really - in 1st or 2nd gear, its fine - above that and i get a vibration, feels like the clutch or driveshaft is out of balance or misaligned - i had the clutch replaced in April and its been vibrating since then - before that, even with a slipping clutch it didnt vibrate. Could it be that my driveshaft has headed west or needs new bushings?

Then again, the engine needs a tune up and although it sounds 'okay' it needs new plugs and a new dizzy cap but its deffo firing on all 6 - being out of tune wouldnt cause it, would it?

Yes you can replace just the bearing...they're close to $200 here in the US. Not sure about the UK :dunno:

The bearing itself is cheap, like $20, it's the whole center carrier assembly that's like $150+

I'd say have a driveshaft shop check it out to make sure you do need the whole assembly, and that it's not a bad u joint. the u joints have to be serviced by a shop anyways as they are staked in.

Mhmmm - BHG does not cause drivetrain vibration i'm pretty sure. There is no BHG in any case. It's drivetrain related - and i'll get the centre bearing and shaft looked at. If its going to need to be completely replaced - who makes single piece props?

JawsGear...very nice single piece, aluminum driveshaft.

Did a write up on it a while back...search for "aluminum" in the titles and "jdub" as poster.

I was joking about the BHG/RK comment.. it's the solution to everything though...

Shipping will be a lot from Canada to UK for something that large...

My only mechanicing knowlege has come from this site (Jdub is usually there when I search technical stuff). So, I'm no major mechanic. Anything technical I type, is a repeat from someone else, and I usually can't be sure if I'm right or wrong.

Now that I've made myself look like a total stupid ass.........................

When taking my motor out of my car, I was told to be sure to mark my driveshaft, and be sure to put it back to the same place it came (lining same bolt hole up) to keep eveything in balance. So, sounds to me like maybe whoever did your clutch may have not done this. Maybe Jdub can verify me on this one.

As for the stupid ass part..........I pulled my motor and tranny, and replaced it with a motor that I got, that the internals were in, and the head was on. All other external parts were assembled by me, by myself with no help at all. I installed that motor (again not even somebody to watch), and started it the first time I turned the key. So, with the help of Supramania and the search button, I'm not a total stupid ass. Car has been running for almost a year now, with no problems, except for the transmission I tore up on the race track. Thanks to all who I learned from.

It's almost a shame all the good stuff for supra's come out over there - the UK is most definitely devoid of machine shops :(

I had to spend 2 weeks trying to find a body shop that was actually related to cars - not healthfood or cosmetics - i hate anita roddick. Grr. Evil woman.

Hmm the lining up might be an issue - the clutch only cost £399 including all fitting - and it was done pretty quickly. That and this was apparrently the 'first RWD' to have been brought in since 2002 - yes, they're used to Ford Escorts and Vauxhall Astra's....

I could have done it myself if i had had a) tools (all mine got stolen out of my van a year or so ago - nice draper greenline socket set :( ) b) somewhere to work on it that wasnt the parking space two doors down from where i lived at the time

If only i had the space, i'd re-purchase or hire the tools and do it myself
