ok, i just got back from NOPI @ budds creek, and last nite i made 2 runs

1st run: Red lighted -.074
60 foot- 2.943
330- 8.003
1/8 - 12.136 @60.41 mph
1000 foot - 15.589

1/4 - 18.526@76.70mph

second run is not even worth typin as you will see in a few...

MODS: BIC DDP,test pipe,2 3/4" exhaust from there with no muffler, stock boost, and auto tranny...fresh mani gasket...

now for the story: now remember i have never been in a MK3 befor so i do not know how it is supposed to feel power wise... any way, i ran the 1st run as i posted and really didnt have much power , my second run i get to the line take off with a .52 reaction time and as soon as i hit 2nd gear all power was gone....i let off the pedal for a second ,then floored it again ..there was still no power... i parked the car until this morning got up and went on my way back to nopi it ran kinda ok for the 1st mile then it did basically the same thing it did the night befor .everytime i try to get into boost it kinda boggs down and a little black smoke comes out until i let off the pedal or get out of boost. i have another MK# owner drive the car while i was at the track to see if he could gimme a idea on what it could be.he drove it about 100 yards and said that it was probably an leak in the innercooler pipe somewhere...my thing is if it was a leak would it still hold the boost at 6psi?? ...it is about a half pound lees than what it usually boosts at..all i know is it should have ran alot faster than 18 seconds in the quater, and it has never ran as bad as it is now!! any input is appreciated

holy crap. first of all, reaction time means NOTHING as long as you dont roll you can sit there for 10sec just trying to find where you want to launch, second your main problem is you 60' time, were you just sitting there then stomped on it at the light or were you brake boosting? with those mods you should be where your 1000' time is.

edit: nvm actually read your full paragraph, when that problem is fixed then my rant applies.

it could most likely be a boost leak. Yes you could still boost even if its not alot but you will have black smoke because you are going way too rich and then it boggs because of the gas in the cyl. Check for leaks. Also hit the gas & brake when at the track to build boost then take off and leave it in drive. Theres no sense in shifting it :).

Sounds to me, like you're dealing with whatever problem I am (ran a best of 17.8 @ 75mph)

I'm hoping a full catless 3" exhaust is going to fix it - but you've already got a DDP + test pipe :(

Any codes being thrown? I pressurized my intake via a $5 Home Depot built boost leak detector - when I pressurized it, I found 3 small leaks (ISC, the hose that comes off the intake, and 90 degrees down to the piping on the front side of the intake, and found a leak in my pancake IC pipe)

I haven't been back to the track yet, but she really doesn't feel any faster. I'm shimmed to 10psi, I go up to 10psi but @ WOT, I will come back down to 6.5psi or so.

Are you having any problems with pressure? Any codes?

you have some serious issues. yes, the 60' is bad, but that isnt the problem. you wouldnt have had a quick time but would have had a high mph. since both are way off, there is a problem. ic pipes/couplers would be a good place to look first. common problem, esp if they are the original.
next i would do a compression test to make sure that is ok.

my car is auto too, and with those mods i did 14.5@97

Defintely sounds like a leak issue. Chech the lower end of the hose coming from the turbo, and all the rest.

Haven't heard it said yet, but first ever trip down the track probably cost you about a second. You will improve with experience. Get the leak resolved, and get that thing down to your 1000 ft time as 89Turbo said. With more experience, and a good running car, and maybe you make it to the 14's. Read out of step's track tips post...............http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14479

dont buy a hardpipe kit if you dont know if thats the problem for sure....go to home depot...spend the 20 bucks...make the boost leak tester....then get back to us
