I come from a land down under
I ALWAYS do a retorque after 5 heat cycles as the ARP's always move some.
(usually the middle group)

Even tension is far more important than the actual number.

ARP suggest a retorque if any of the hardware is new.

lmao
thats one low blow to all of those that have attempted it :) I never tried i just said ok, time for MHG... I am interested in the results of the re torque, its nice to see direct results and comparisons like that...

I retorqued my ARP's after some heat cycles two years ago.
It was a good thing to do because they moved indeed.

HAHA I dont' blame you though, the idea of re torquing after 50XXX miles, didn't make sense, if there was damage to be done, it would have had plenty of time to surface, and torquing again would just smash the already messed up gasket... If it were a brand new car with say 30 miles, it is more believable.

Okay, thanks for the info I am definitely going to re torque as so many people have had movement with the studs.. Thanks all for the help

Getting back to the OP questions, the Titan and others are just copying the OEM headgasket coolant holes that do not line up with the block port. Its a mystery, especially since it weakens the gasket in that area. There's plenty of pictures around of BHGs with that thin bridge separating the two holes mangled and bent inwards.

yeah thats exaclty wht I pictured when i went to install it.... Poor design in my opinion, and wouldn't be hard to fix from a manufacturers standpoint...

However, the head has one big coolant port that does match the HG cutout. The real question then, is why the head port doesn't match the block.

Maybe the smaller block port and obstructed gasket port is used to balance the coolant flow in the engine (less coolant on the cooler intake side), a cheaper solution perhaps than a redesign of the head casting. Too bad we will never have access to their development documentation to know more.

<nodding> There had to be some reason it was done this way.

hmm well I hope you guys are right, and that it is something very intuitive.. but there has been much success with using this gasket so I suppose it wont be to much of a biggie
