alright guys for the few that said hey in my intro thread, here is a little info on my build. No its not a supra.. But it is a Toyota. 1986 Toyota Single cab pickup. The only thing toyota left on the truck is the cab and frame. Here is the build of the chassis.

Now for the motor, pulled a 7MGTE out of a junk yard. Was reported to be running well when they stripped the car it came out of. Took it straight to the engine shop to be ripped apart. Since i had just blew up the motor that was in the truck i was just gonna do this one right from the start

Turns out the motor already has head studs, 550cc's, and upgraded wheel. So after i found out about those freebies i figured i should sign up at a place like this so when i have a stupid question and can get an answer from someone who knows about supras.

So since it is going into my truck i already have to do an aftermarket intercooler, which would work best as a front mount. Still havent decided on what size to get. Need to have custom IC piping done as well. Exhaust will be 3in turbo back. I am also assuming that i will need a Lex 4.0 AFM? Porsche diverter. Atmospheric is not an option for me as the truck is only driven in the dirt...

So right now i am dealing with what size head gasket to run. Head had been machined before. So Machinist says that after he is done it will be 20 thousandths off from stock. having an issue with removing the head studs, if i wasnt able to get them out to send block out to be decked. A MHG is out of the question correct? visually the block looks fine other then your standard gasket let overs, the HG wasnt blown. it was a running motor. i just dont like taking chances with anything that takes fine calculations. Basically i gonna be the newb here and ask for some guidence in my quest to solve my HG questions. Options on what to do, and best way to do it. Ive read many of the threads on here as well as the MHG thread. I research a lot before i ask questions. but this one hasnt been answered to my safisfaction. So thanks in advance to anyone who wants to help.

Well first off to get the head studs out, have you tried putting two nuts on a stud tighten them togeather and then try to remove the bottom nut? I would personally go with a MHG, but you will need to follow the manufactures recommendation on the RA(smoothness) that the head and block need to be. That being said if you cant get the studs out then yes MHG is out of the question. Some others might try it anyway but personally I wouldn't. There is a simple formula for calculating the size of headgasket you need, I just dont have time to search for it right now. Try searching through the 7mgte technical section on here, its in there somewhere. Depending on what sort of psi your going to be running with the supercharger, I would possibly raise the compression ratio some by going with a smaller HG. It seems like it would respond a little better for what you are planning on using it for. I was thinking somewhere around 8.7-9.0:1 ratio. Good luck with the build.

Yes the block will have to be decked to run a MHG, and with the proper RA finish.
You should be able to get the studs out with an allen wrench, unless they were put in upside down.
Also make sure to get the front timing cover machined with the block to be sure it doesn't hold up the head.

All I gotta say is, I wholeheartedly approve of this build. Always thought it would be fun to build a dune runner, got nothing but desert around me...

head is getting finished up today. block should be going in on monday to get decked and then i can order my gasket.

Decided to just hone and ring the block, new front and rear mains, rod bearings, thrust washers, and anything else that can wear out. Need to find a place to test and clean my injectors so i can feel better about first start up. seems like machine work is gonna cost the same as parts now lol.


For anyone that is interested in helping at all, i need a wire key. ive heard it is a very simple wire to fire with this motor. And which control modules i need to run the motor, basically removing anything that isnt needed to complete the swap.

I'm with IJ on that sentiment, we like anything cool around here. Hell, my fleet is only halfway filled with Supras. :p

I'm actually going to be pulling a 2uz out of a tundra and putting a 7m in very soon. Has a camburg front race kit, and deaver leafs in the rear.

Did you make that front kit?

Front end is Giant Motorsports equal length conversion. Rear was done by hand by my buddies and I. truck has never seen a fab shop, built by hand by me and my close friends in a couple diff garages lol. camburg race kit? i'm pretty savy in the tundra field and know of most of the well built ones. my buddies is just finishing up at DMZ fab. had there been a bigger aftermarket following i would have gone 2uz.

yea it is an open desert truck. I would like to say it's not a "baja style" truck. There are a lot of trucks that try to imitate these trucks in the socal. Kinda like the equivalent of someone installing lowering springs on a supra and calling it a drift car.. Either way purpose built for desert. truck will never see the street and is trailered out whenever its driven. But yea its addiction that is worse then a drug habit.. Going fast is fun, Turning fast is fun. Then add bumps and jumps and dirt and your hooked!

Anyone here have any experience with Lucas Oil Racing Gear oil? Just got some for my new Built W58. retail on this stuff is a little ridiculous but i got a smokin deal on it, so i'm gonna give it a shot.

My apologies man, I can tell it is a serious rig in the making, I didn't mean to imply otherwise. :)

What you have going on is EXACTLY why I just don't "do" trucks. I can't afford to start another addiction. :p

It's all good brotha, i didnt take it wrong. I mean i know the internets is serious business and all lol Yea this has to be one of the most expensive "Automotive" hobbies there are. It's to the point its a lifestyle. Our vacations and really lifestyle haha revolves around Racing and offroad in general. Its deff and all in type sport.

but onto my next issue with the truck... I bought the wrong harness.. turns out my motor is an 89 and i just went through an entire yellow plug harness fixing damaged wires and luming it. so if anyone knows if i can run a yellow plug harness with an 89 motor any help would be appreciated!
