^its all in the tune. he had a standalone. and most peoples cars and tuned as good as his.

stock pistons should be able to handle 4-500 hp depending on tune but if your going for that kinda power you might as well just go with forged.

Indeed it's in the tune...X-man made 753whp and 589tq @ 30 psi on the stock internals, using AEM of course.

A lot of reliable power can be made on stock internals with the proper tune.

But if you're rebuilding, it only makes sense to build for more power. Not HUGE power necessarily...just more power.

It's been said in this thread and echo'd by folks in the other recent piston thread......if you can afford it, Probes FTW!!!

The BIG difference being Sean knows what he's doing, most of our members are on the ragged edge at stock power levels so saying xxx power can be made on stock parts is misleading at best.

I alreaady said im goin with Probes............

Im only shootin for 300ish but with forged internals and the lipp lex afm sittin in my tool chest its only a matter of time before 550s and afpr find there way into my engine bay

Then the boost goes way up and never comes back down.....

Save the money and overbuild..

They come with Total Seal rings supposedly, and according to everyone here they are basically trash because they are next to impossible to seat in our blocks.

Ah. I didn't know that. Sorry... Aaron at DM should know if the OEM rings would work.

But, yeah I saw that either Jetjock or Jdub stated that Total Seal Rings are something to avoid with our engines.

Total Seal is just a brand name - Jdub's talking about the Total Seal Gapless Rings, I believe.

The rings with the Probe pistons are either NPR or Total Seal built, but they are both the exact same specifications - Chrome top ring, ductile iron 2nd, standard oil ring.

Stock rings WILL NOT work on the Probes, as they are build with 1.2/1.5/3.0 rings (similar to the JZ series engines)

The Chrome ring is a tough ring - you MUST have a proper plateau hone done, and you WILL have to run the engine hard to get the rings to seat.

Once you have the rings set, you will be good for damn near anything you throw at it (short of a lean injector @ 26psi from a T70, lol)

hmm, so i have the npr pistons that came with rings, i suppose it would be wise to get oem style rings for .020 over for a more likely seal?

unless i do the break in period completely right

That is correct...Total Seal gapless rings. Sorry, should have been more specific.

What should i recommend to my machinist when doing the hone for the Total Seal rings that come with the Probe pistons? Is there a specific RA that it calls for?
